Covenant OPC Youth Group For high schoolers - Study, Social, Service

04/03/2024

Our youth group has been hit with a terrible pain. 16 year-old Ruairidh went ahead of us into Heaven after a car crash this weekend. Please pray for our students in the unexpected loss of one of their own.
"We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed…we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you to himself. All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." ~2 Corinthians 4

We had a great prayer circle around the fire at our last youth group meeting of the school year, with incoming freshmen as well as some post-highs returning to fellowship with us. We will be praying for y’all as you press forward into summer plans and beyond!

Never fails.

Last Sunday, we discussed the importance of Jesus as both God to be worshipped and a moral example to be followed. You cannot separate His perfection from His divinity; and we ought not separate our worship from our obedience.
But there's more: even when He knew our inclination toward disobedience, Jesus lived that perfect moral life SO THAT He could then impute that righteousness to us. Hallelujah, what a Savior!

We cannot expect the people of this world to understand Joseph, who said, "How could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?" The children of the present world cannot understand Joseph because they don't know Joseph's God: "How can I... sin against God?"

How many of us would commit a sin if we could be absolutely'sure that we would not be found out by people? And how many sins have we refrained from simply because we lacked the opportunity—or, to put it in Christian terms, because we were spared the temptation? Knowing this about ourselves should make us forever reluctant to condemn anyone else who falls into sin.

We had a great week in New Jersey! Our heads are spinning with everything we learned and we are amazed by the opportunities God provided to share the Gospel with passers-by. As usual, we are thankful for all who taught and led us and can't wait to go back!

We are back at the Boardwalk Chapel this week, receiving a rigorous 7+ hrs/day of college-level theology, apologetics, and evangelism training! Praise the Lord with us for the chance to be here, and pray for our students to absorb even just a little of what they’re learning.

This past Sunday we studied the introduction to 1 Peter, addressed to "elect exiles of the Dispersion... according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood." We learned the implications of our identity as "elect exiles": we do not belong to the world we live in now and should not strive to be like it, but we DO belong to a God who loves us, chose us to be part of His family, and will one day welcome us home to be with Him forever.

"It should be the Christian’s natural state to feel that the times are out of joint and that we do not truly belong here." (Carl Trueman)
