Beulah Presbyterian Church

Beulah Presbyterian Church Members come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. The spirit of Beulah began when thirteen men and women joined to form a church August 22, 1854.

Geographically, we are from the farms surrounding the church, the communities of Orion, Sherrard, and Coal Valley, and the wider Quad Cities area on both sides of the river. The first building was built in 1860 when the church had 39 members. Originally, supply pastors filled the pulpit on Sunday and moderated the session meetings. Later, pastors were shared with other churches. In 1956, Beulah hi

red her first full-time pastor. When flames consumed the century-old sanctuary in 1968, it marked a new beginning. A new sanctuary was completed and an educational wing added. Crosses, built of the charred timbers from the old church, grace both the sanctuary and outside of the church building. Beulah's hope for the future lies in the strength of her past, in her young people, and in the diversity of the congregation. With people from all walks of life bringing their varied talents to Beulah, the future looks bright.

Call to Worship
“Come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into God’s presence with thanksgiving;
let us make a joyful noise to the Lord with songs of praise!"
*Hymn #139, “Come, Thou Almighty King”
*Confession of Faith
I saw another angel coming down from heaven,
having great authority, and the earth was illumined by his
splendor. He called out with a mighty voice,
“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great!
It has become a dwelling place of demons,
a haunt of every foul spirit,
a haunt of every foul bird,
a haunt of every foul and hateful beast.
For all the nations have fallen.”
Then I heard another voice from heaven saying,
“Come out of her, my people,
so that you do not take part in her sins
and so that you do not share in her plagues,
for her sins are heaped high as heaven,
and God has remembered her iniquities.”
*Assurance of Pardon
“See, the home of God is among mortals.
The Lord will dwell with them;
they will be God’s peoples,
and God himself will be with them and be their God;
God will wipe every tear from their eyes.
for the first things have passed away.”
Believe and share the Good News!
In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!
In Jesus Christ, we are a new creation!
*Gloria Patri

Tell me about the New Organ
Beulah’s new organ is an Allen Digital Computer Organ, model
Renaissance 230, built in Macungie, Pennsylvania. The Renaissance
series was produced from 1998 to 2008, and Beulah’s instrument was
likely manufactured around 2001. Designed to provide the musical
richness of a traditional pipe organ with the reliability of modern
technology, this instrument offers both exceptional sound and lasting
quality for worship.
· Make: Allen Digital Computer Organ
· Model: Renaissance 230
· Place of Manufacture: Macungie, PA
· Years Made: 1998-2008, with Beulah’s organ likely made
around 2001
· High-fidelity digital sampling: The Renaissance series uses
advanced digital sampling to reproduce realistic pipe organ tone,
capturing the attack, steady-state sound, and decay of organ pipes.
· Pipe organ tonal capability: The instrument offers the
equivalent tonal resources of a pipe organ with about thirty ranks of
pipes. Allen sampled a variety of pipe types and stored their tonal
characteristics in digital memory, allowing the organist to select
registrations and perform in the same way they would on a traditional
pipe organ.
· Advanced sound technology: Renaissance technology
combines high-resolution digital samples with acoustic modeling to
produce rich, authentic organ sound.
· Quality console design: The instrument features a high-quality
console with wood keys and moving stop tabs that visually indicate
which stops are in use.
· Durability and low maintenance: The Renaissance series uses
maintenance-free components, including reed switch key contacts that
are comparatively resistant to environmental changes.
· Flexible audio output: Designed for multi-channel audio
systems, the organ provides spatial separation of tonal divisions,
enhancing the realism and presence of the sound in the worship
space.
· Built-in recording attachment: Every note can be captured
directly onto a USB thumb drive. This allows for high-quality playback
during future services or special events, ensuring our congregation’s
music is preserved and accessible at any time. The number of
recordings are only limited by the memory size of the thumb drive.
With its blend of traditional organ character and dependable digital innovation,
the new Allen Renaissance 230 is a meaningful addition to the congregation’s
music ministry. It offers beauty, versatility, and reliability needed to support
hymns, musicians or choir accompaniment, and worship for years to come.

Hosta Mania is today after Worship!!
Preacher’s Notes
One of my goals in preaching is to intrigue people about the Bible.
I often wish I could speak a lot longer and in-depth about various books in the
Bible. But it is better to do that in-depth work in Bible study with a group. I
hope this sermon series called you to think again about Revelation. It is not a
time-line for the future. It is an art gallery that calls us to look at the spiritual
reality of the world around us. Do we see the works of "the deceiver"? Do we
recognize the power of the dragon? And most of all, do we see the presence
of the incarnate Christ at work in the church and in the world? Revelation is a
book focused on the incarnation of Jesus Christ and onGod’s grace as a living
and dynamic presence here and now.
If you wish to investigate more, the best book on Revelation that I know of is
M. Eugene Boring's "Interpretation Commentary on Revelation," published by
Westminster/John Knox Press.
Welcome to Beulah!
Christ calls us into community, so we are glad to be with you today. Everyone

Prelude

Call to Worship
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth,
for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.
And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem,
coming down out of heaven from God,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
“Behold, the home of God is among mortals.
God will dwell with them;
they will be God’s peoples
and God will be with them
to wipe every tear from their eyes.
Death will be no more;
mourning and crying and pain will be no more,
for the first things have passed away.”
And the one who was seated on the throne said,
“Behold, I am making all things new.”
*Hymn #144, “Alleluia! Sing to Jesus!”
*Confession of Faith from PCUSA Brief Confession
In a broken and fearful world
the Spirit gives us courage
to pray without ceasing,
to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior,
to unmask idolatries in Church and culture,
to hear the voices of peoples long silenced,
and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace.
In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit,
we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks
and to live holy and joyful lives,
even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth,
praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!”
