About Geshe Lobsang Dawa
The Non-Sectarian Dharma Guru Venerable Geshe Lobsang Dawa was born near the Boudhanath Stupa in Nepal. During his childhood, he studied modern education at the Central School for Tibetans in Mussoorie, India. At the age of eleven, he left home to become a monk and studied Buddhist philosophy through logical reasoning at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics in Dharamsala and Drepung Loseling Monastery. After completing his studies of the five major Buddhist texts, he received the title of Geshe (spiritual teacher) from that very monastery. Additionally, he received numerous profound and extensive teachings, empowerments, transmissions, and instructions from H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama and numerous other non-sectarian holy masters on the sutra and ta**ra traditions of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism.

From 1997 to 2017, for a full 20 years, he served as a professor of major Buddhist texts, and as an education administrator at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics in Dharamshala.

From 2005 to 2021, under the guidance of H.H the 14th Dalai Lama and at the request of the Dharamshala Introduction to Buddhism Committee, he took on the role of a Buddhism teacher. He taught introduction to Buddhism and meditation practices to the lay and monastic community in Dharamshala.

He has also been teaching introductory, intermediate, and advanced Buddhism courses, meditation practices, and transmission to monasteries, nunneries, schools, settlements, various Buddhist organizations, and both Tibetan and non-Tibetan Buddhism enthusiasts throughout India.

Moreover, he has authored and continues to write numerous Buddhist texts for beginners, intermediate, and advanced levels of those interested in Buddhism. Published books are distributed free of charge to public.

In 2013, he established the Dharamshala Community Meditation Center near Delek hospital by renovating old Shugseb Nunnery, a free facility for lay and monastic individuals who are interested in practicing meditation according to the sutra and ta**ra traditions. He continues to serve as the director of this centre.

Furthermore, since 2008, he has been introducing Buddhism in Nepal. In 2015, he established The Society of Introduction to Buddhism Nepal and took on the role of its Chairman. He has personally visited many areas in Nepal, including the capital and especially remote rural areas, generously offering both material and spiritual assistance to people regardless of their religious or ethnic background, for the benefit of the Buddha's teachings and sentient beings.

Additionally, since 2020, to benefit Buddhism enthusiasts around the world, he has been offering online introductions to Buddhism, teachings on major Buddhist texts, and instructions related to meditation practices.

This concludes the brief introduction of his visible dharma activities and social work for the benefit of the Buddha's teachings and sentient beings. May virtues increase.

2026 Deer Park Sunday Teachings to start March 15 10AM:

Geshe Tenzin Sherab will continue to teach on Buddha Maitreya's Abhisamayalamkara or Ornament of Clear Realization. Geshe-la is using Haribhadra's commentary entitled "Clear Meaning Commentary".

The Ornament is the most important of the 5 main texts or subjects studied over the course of the 23 year curriculum in the main Gelugpa monasteries. The entirety of the Buddha's teachings is contained in the Ornament.

By understanding the Ornament, one understands the 4 other main texts and, by implication, the entirety of the Buddha's teaching.

It is rare to have the opportunity to receive these precious teachings in the west. His Holiness the Dalai Lama has himself recommended that these great texts be taught in the west.
