Bishop Akiyama spent this past Sunday with the wonderful community of St Philip the Deacon Episcopal Church, Portland, sharing in worship, prayer, the Eucharist, and the joy of being together. It was a beautiful morning filled with warmth, welcome, and the Spirit moving among this faithful congregation.

We give thanks for the people of St. Philip the Deacon—for their community, their deep care for one another, and the life and love they bring to our diocesan family. Sundays like this remind us what a gift it is to be connected to one another across the Episcopal Church in Western Oregon.

We’re always grateful for these Sundays spent with communities around the diocese—for the conversations, connections, shared worship, and warm welcomes. Thank you to everyone at St. Luke’s for a wonderful day together!

Yesterday, Bishop Akiyama had a delightful visitation with the wonderful community of St. James Santiago Episcopal Church, Lincoln City, OR.

It was a joy to worship together, spend time in fellowship, and celebrate the life and ministry of this congregation on the Oregon Coast. We are grateful for the warm welcome and for all the ways the people of St. James Santiago continue to share God's love in their community.

Yesterday, Bishop Akiyama visited the community of St Thomas Episcopal Church, Dallas, OR, joining them for worship and time together in fellowship.

Episcopal visitations are a wonderful reminder of the connections we share as one diocesan community. We give thanks for the people of St. Thomas, for their welcome and hospitality, and for their faithful ministry in Dallas and the surrounding community.

Wow, our hearts are full! 💜

Bishop Akiyama recently spent time with young people from across Province VIII at the Province VIII Youth Gathering in Hawaiʻi. We give thanks for these young leaders, their faith, their joy, and the ways the Holy Spirit is at work in their lives and in our Church.

Please keep them, their leaders, and all who are gathered in your prayers as they continue to learn, grow, and build friendships across the Episcopal Church.

A few more moments of joy from Portland Pride! 🏳️‍🌈🌈

On Sunday, Episcopalians marched alongside our Lutheran and United Church of Christ siblings, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and bearing witness together to a simple and enduring truth: every person is beloved of God.

We are grateful for everyone who walked with us, welcomed us along the parade route, and continues the work of building communities where LGBTQ+ people are not only welcomed, but fully affirmed and celebrated.

Our churches have not always embodied that welcome, and we know there is more work to do. We march with joy for how far we have come, humility about the history we carry, and hope for the road ahead.

What a joy to march together at Portland Pride! 🏳️‍🌈

Yesterday, Episcopalians joined our Lutheran and United Church of Christ siblings to walk in celebration and solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. We are proud to show up together and proclaim that every person is beloved of God and deserves to be welcomed, affirmed, and able to live with dignity and freedom.

We also march knowing that the Church has not always lived fully into that truth and that LGBTQ+ people have too often experienced exclusion and harm in Christian communities. A parade cannot undo that history, but showing up matters. We walk with gratitude for those who have led the way, with humility about the work that remains, and with hope as we continue striving to become a Church where the full dignity of every child of God is celebrated.

Thank you to everyone who walked, cheered, waved, and celebrated with us. Happy Pride! 🌈

We’re thrilled to once again join our friends from Trinity Cathedral Portland, St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, our Lutheran siblings, and other ecumenical partners to march together in the Portland Pride Parade this Sunday! 🏳️‍🌈

Join us at the North Park Blocks near NW Glisan & Park (look for position #88), or meet the Trinity group in the cathedral courtyard at 11:30 a.m. following the Sunday service. The parade steps off at noon and is a gentle, one-mile, family-friendly walk.

Come walk with us as we celebrate, support, and proclaim God’s love for all. See you there! 🌈
