SC State Veterans Appreciation Program set for Thursday, Nov. 6

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Each November, South Carolina State University gathers not just to observe Veterans’ Day but also to express gratitude and honor those who have served, carrying the university’s values into communities around the world.

SC State will host its annual Veterans’ Appreciation Day at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, in the Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium.

The program is open to the public and will feature Col. Samuel Glover as the keynote speaker.

The Veterans Appreciation Day observance is a long-standing tradition at SC State, uniting students, faculty, alumni, and community members with reflections and recognition of the nation’s servicemen and women. The ceremony will include remarks from university leaders, musical tributes, and a presentation by the Bulldog Battalion ROTC cadets.

About Col. Samuel B. Glover II
U.S. Army Col. Samuel B. Glover II currently serves as the senior advisor for the Resource Management Directorate (G8) at the Army Materiel Command at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. The unit oversees global sustainment and logistics operations for the U.S. Army, managing an annual budget exceeding $55 billion.

A 1995 graduate of South Carolina State University, Col. Glover was commissioned as an aviation second lieutenant after earning a business degree. Over his 30-year active duty and reserve career, he has served in tactical, operational, and strategic roles across the Army, including a UH-60 Black Hawk pilot with more than 1500 hours of combat and training flight time.

He has held key leadership positions, including Defense Congressional Fellow, chief of the Congressional Budget Office, and Army comptroller, managing multibillion-dollar budgets for major Army divisions and commands. His efforts supported initiatives, including the establishment of the Army Futures Command and modernization programs aiding warfighters in Ukraine.

Glover holds a Doctor of Management in organizational leadership from the University of Phoenix, a Master of Business Administration in finance from Webster University, and a master’s degree in national resource strategy from the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy. His numerous awards include six Legions of Merit, three Bronze Stars, and four Meritorious Service Medals.

He is married to Dr. Denise L. Hamlin-Glover of Baltimore, Maryland. They are the proud parents of two children, Samuel III and Autumn.
