Father’s Day at SJM was such a special celebration! After Mass, our MYA served the dads a selection of knafeh, baklava, Sharab al-Ward, and freshly brewed Najjar Arabic coffee. Families also enjoyed capturing memories together at our photo booth.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate and thank the fathers and father figures in our community.

A special thank you to Najjar Coffee for donating the Najjar raqwa and helping make the day extra special for our dads!

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION MATTHEW 10:1-7

“Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority…”

Before Jesus sends forth His 12 apostles out on their mission, He summons them to Him.

Don’t miss it.

They never once appointed themselves. Those disciples were called and given the authority to be God’s boots in the ground, to evangelize, and to protect the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.

Their power and ability to respond to such an ask didn’t come from their talents, it came from their relationship with God. And surely they weren’t perfect. He intentionally chose imperfect people to carry out His mission, so that we as disciples know that it is also within our capabilities and responsibilities to be the hands and feet of the Church.

Every single one of us is called to make the Kingdom visible through works of mercy, forgiveness, justice, and love.

So, the question is, are you living out your God given mission?

And for someone who feels equipped, inadequate, too broken, not knowledgeable enough, that’s relatable.

But let this Reading be a reminder that it’s not about being worthy, it’s about being willing.

Tomorrow is for the BABAS!!! It’s for the spiritual ones, biological ones, the honorary dads, those who stepped up and cared for those without one. We will be celebrating every father tomorrow after the 11:30 Liturgy with coffee and knafeh.

It’s going to be a great day, so please join us on the patio by our Blessed Lady🙏🏽☕️

It’s a strange thing, we pay for therapy, download every meditation app, practice yoga, and attempt to find stillness often without success. It’s not to say that those can’t be tools because they absolutely can. But it is to say that we can’t forget to go to the Good Father.

We go everywhere looking for peace except the one place we can be sure to experience it.

The Church, especially when the Blessed Sacrament is present.

Adoration…

It’s ready for us at any local parish on any given day at various times.

And SJM offers it on Thursday evenings from 5:30-6:30 before Liturgy.

He’s there and He is the Remedy.

So stop looking elsewhere and go.

He’s waiting and all He wants is for you to come and see.

It’s a light roundup of things happening at SJM because we know many of our parishioners are on vacation, but for those who are here, we don’t want you to miss upcoming events!

-FOR THE BABAS: Our MYA will be serving coffee and knafeh for the dads in our church this Sunday! Please join us on the patio after the 11:30.

-NAM CONVENTION: There’s still time to register so please visit the site or click the link in the bulletin to sign up; we have 30+ young adults and many parishioners attending, so don’t hesitate to go!

-SUGGESTED ATTIRE: We’ve put out guidelines for how to dress for Mass because we want to maintain reverence in God’s house. Because we have entered the warmer months, we want to reiterate what’s appropriate and what’s not. For any clarification, please reach out to the Sisters or clergy or even me (Tina)!

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION LUKE 10: 21-24

Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit saying, “I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike.”

That might catch you off guard because it sounds like He’s condemning intelligence. But that couldn’t be true given that the Church has produced brilliant theologians, philosophers, scientists, and scholars, who have to incredible and important in which we look to in order to better understand our faith and its teachings. Instead, Jesus is reveling a deeper truth, that through humility and childlike wonder we too may come to know, love, and serve Him.

All of us, even the wisest must recognize that we will always need God’s guidance and should never become so self sufficient that we’re no longer teachable to Him.

In today’s age we have access to so much information, but that doesn’t equate to wisdom. We have to be careful not to confuse the two. Knowledge only won’t reveal the Father’s heart.

God is not a puzzle to be solved, He’s a person who chooses to be made known and the question is are we making ourselves ready and open to learn Him?

If you’re wondering how, it’s through prayer, the Scriptures, and especially the Sacraments.

Think about it. At every Mass, Jesus reveals Himself to us in the Eucharist!

WOAH.

May the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit continue to work through us and help us to remain childlike in the willingness and eagerness to grow in communion with the Trinity.
