FIB'ers Christianfishingclub

FIB'ers Christianfishingclub FIB'ers is a Christ-centered, inter-denominational fishing club. Established in 1983 by our founder Dean Gilbert. There are also no initial fees or yearly dues.

Our objective is to create a comfortable, fun, and relaxed environment in which Christian fishermen, their families and their guests may fish and enjoy Christian fellowship. We encourage family participation in all of our activities and welcome single men and women to our club. Our yearly activities include: saltwater charter boat fishing, private boaters tournaments, lake and river trout fishing

trips and bay tournaments. We also take disadvantaged kids from Orange County out fishing or whale watching every year. In an effort to pass on our love of sports fising to our children, we have created a "Fib'ers Junior Division" that has it's own tournaments, charter fishing trips, and yearly awards. FIB'ers is unique in that there is no formal membership. All club expenses are paid from free-will donations.

We had a great turn out for our FIB’ers club meeting last Thursday night on the 20th. This year, we only have our meetings every other month so it was nice seeing each other. As usual we started our meeting with an opening prayer, then talked about our past three fishing trips we’ve had so far this year with one more to go on the Freedom Sept 22-24 our of 22nd St. Landing (open spots still available). If you want to read about our past trips and see pictures, please of to our website at https://fibersfishingclub.com

We especially enjoyed our special guest speaker Matt Vander Dussen, West Coast Sales Rep for AFTCO. Matt brought everyone up to date with all of AFTCO’s new products from SPF 50 fishing shirts and shorts, outerwear, soft tackle and reel bags including fluorocarbon and really nice fillet knives to broaden their product line. They really have so much more to offer than what we saw so make sure you go to the website at https://www.aftco.com and check them out! I know that I’ll be placing an order with them very soon!!
Not only was it great listening to Matt but he topped off our evening by giving everyone a $25 Aftco gift card, an Aftco hat and miscellaneous Aftco promotional items like decals and cool keychains.

Thank you Matt for your generosity and for taking time out from your busy schedule to speak to our club. We wish you much happiness with your family and with being a new dad. Valerie

We couldn’t have asked for better weather conditions for our club family picnic at Rush Park in Rossmoor on Saturday especially on one of the hottest days of the year!

Our picnic was held under a large picnic shelter that provided several tables and shade, surrounded by green grassy lawns and several trees. What helped keep us cool was the nice sea breeze we had all day long keeping the temperature very comfortable.

Although several of our club members were unable to attend we had a nice small group who came bringing food to share and great conversation. It was also nice meeting their family members. Everything was delicious and we certainly had more than enough to eat!

Tom Handzus’ casting contest was in full swing after everyone ate and relaxed in the shade of the surrounding trees while watching people try their hand at casting and some even catching a tree or two. What a great way to spend the day and when the contest was over, our recent member Ian Sequeira won First Place followed by Paula Kunkel, Second Place then Tom Hinmon, Third Place and some nice prizes were awarded to them for their effort. We even had a prize for the “Worst Caster” which went to Tim Pfrimmer who has been on our last two fishing trips! Congratulations to all and thank you to everyone who attended our first picnic!

Now, as we move into August, we are looking forward to our next fishing charter on the Relentless out of H&M Landing on August 12 & 13 followed by our club meeting on August 20th with speaker Matt Vander Dussen, West Coast Sales, Aftco.

Stay tuned for more details on these upcoming events as we get closer to them! Hope you can join us!! See less

The July 15, Olive Crest trip was one of the best ever! We left the dock at 5:30, picked up a load of bait and headed south. The ocean was beautiful with no wind or bumpy sea to speak of. A local pod of dolphins paid us a visit on the way down. We dropped anchor and the excitement began. By evening’s end we had put 40 legal barracuda on board. Everyone on the trip took home fish; one young fisherwoman took home a whole barracuda to show off.

There were many hugs and “Thank You’s” from the group of delighted fishermen. Our rods and reels survived the trip, but needed lots of love afterwards. Thank you Charles Massingill, Shirley Bruhl, Tom Hinmon and Paula Kunkel. You were a GREAT help. The crew from the Sum Fun deserves a big hug of appreciation. too!!

Our Junior trip also fished on the Sum Fun on a Friday afternoon. Again, the ocean was calm and the ride down to the fishing grounds was smooth. The pod of dolphins showed up to say “Hi” again. The fishing was not as exciting as our Olive Crest trip, but was fun. Many under sized bass were caught and released, with squeals of delight. One young fisherman claimed 16 fish caught. The galley was kept busy cooking hamburgers and making quesadas. One part of the trip that was fun to watch was on our last move up the coast. The young fishermen enjoyed being splashed by the bow waves and then hugging their chaperones. One young girl really enjoyed playing with the bait and carrying it around to show off to anyone who was there. The trip was filled with lots of good natured fun squeals of delight from catching fish; some for the first time and there were smiles on adults faces watching their kids bring fish on board.

Again, a special “Thank You” to the Sum Fun’s crew, plus to Paula, Charlie, Tom, for all the help to provide a wonderful day on the water!

******************************

Our July Mirage trip brought home plenty of fish to eat, just not white seabass. We left the dock about 9:30 pm. The sea was a little rock and roll but tolerable.

Our lines hit the water about 5am and Valerie Handzus brought first fish on board which was a 14.11 lb. white seabass and was the only one caught. Friend of FIB’er Adam Ho, Gloria Yeh hooked the jackpot fish, a 19.5 halibut also the only one caught. We spent the next 4 hours looking for white sea bass, but they were not to be found. We headed to the rock cod grounds and found plenty of fish. Two lingcod were caught: 9.7 and 8.2 by Ken Kunkel and Ron Withers.

The breakfast burritos were outstanding, rating 10 on a scale of 1 to 10 and the hamburgers were also excellent!

We fished for the rest of our trip bringing on board a nice load of rock fish. The group was very enjoyable with lots of laughs and the wonderful sense that we are enjoying this beautiful ocean! The trip ride home was smooth and just perfect for our afternoon naps. We arrived back at the dock at 6:30 pm and unloaded our gear plus plenty of excellent eating fish.

Special thanks to the Mirage crew who kept us untangled and helped in many ways to make this an enjoyable trip.
