TAKE ACTION TO REMOVE IMMIGRATION APPLICATION BARRIERS
USCIS announced that it will require electronic filing of applications. Mandatory electronic filing creates a major barrier for low-income applicants, elderly individuals, and people with limited digital literacy or no reliable internet access.
Take Action and make a public comment to express your concern about electronic filing. *DHS will consider public comments submitted on or before October 13, 2026.

According to an article from the LA Times, immigration detainees at Core Civic’s facility in California City and Geo Group’s Adelanto Detention Center, are forced to pay exorbitant commissary prices. “Detainees said shampoo and other hygiene items sometimes run out for days and that meals are small...The detainees said an 8-ounce jar of Folgers instant coffee costs $18 at the California City facility, a single instant ramen soup is 75 cents and a box of 40 tampons costs nearly $21.“

TAKE ACTION! Call Governor Newsom and urge him to support Senate Bill 941. This bill would prohibit the sale price of an article offered in a commissary from exceeding a 35% markup above the amount paid to a vendor for that article.

The Justice Center had Virtual Advocacy Days on August 18 & 19, meeting with 10 offices of State Senators and Assemblymembers. Faith advocates engaged with their legislators and urging them to support key bills addressing immigration enforcement and environmental injustice. These advocates, including constituents, encouraged legislators to support policies that respect human dignity while working towards the common good.

Please join the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange and the St. Joseph Center staff as they continue to serve at Cantlay Food Distribution Center in Santa Ana. Your help will support the nearly 1,000 families and individuals who depend on Cantlay to put food on their table. ⁠
