Alleluia, or "Praise the Lord," is an expression of joy and hope for the eternal happiness which our Lord obtained for us by His glorious Resurrection. The Church sings Alleluia today, and often during the Octave, because Christ is risen from the grave, and as St. Augustine says, "We have left the grave of sin, and are ready to walk in the way of the divine commandments."

First Sunday of Lent

"The Lord your God shall you worship."

As Christ Himself was tempted by Satan, so are we. Our strength to resist lies in first and foremost - by uniting ourselves with Christ in Holy Mass and Communion. Our strength also comes from fasting, in guarding and controlling our senses, in almsgiving, in prayers, and spiritual reading.

The gospel for Sexagesima Sunday was the parable of the Sower. Distrusting our own powers we should always have perfect confidence in God's grace which will be "sufficient" for us if we humbly ask for it. May then the seed of God's word find "a right and good heart" in us to receive it, that we may bear much fruit in patience. We should not be afraid to ask our Lord to protect our faith so we may never lose it.

Feast of the Holy Family (First Sunday after the Epiphany)

The Church proposes for our imitation the virtues of Jesus, Mary and Joseph in their hidden and humble life at Nazareth, especially the subjection of the Son of God, throughout His earthly life, by obedience to Mary and Joseph.

"His Name was called Jesus, the Name given Him by the angel."

The Church invites us to celebrate in a solemn feast, the Holy Name of Jesus. This Most Holy Name should be on our lips during our lives and especially at the moment of our death.

"Hail full of grace, the Lord is with you." December 8th is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

21st Sunday after Pentecost

"Forgive your brothers from your hearts."

Today's Gospel is from Matthew 18, 23-35, the parable of the unforgiving servant. Those do not forgive who nourish hatred in their hearts, think only of revenge, and never forget an offense. They act like the "wicked servant." "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy" from their heavenly Father.

10/7 The Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Tradition tells us that the Mother of God appeared to St. Dominic, and asked him to propagate the devotion of the Holy Rosary as a powerful means of combating error and vice. The decisive victory of he Christians at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571 prompted Pope Pius V to institute this Feast and to decree that the Blessed Virgin Mary be invoked as "Help of Christians."
