Thursday: Prayer at 7:00pm at the church building. We affirm the sole headship of Jesus Christ over his church, and hold to the Scriptures as God's infallible and inerrant word. We hold that all of these Scriptures contained in the Old and New Testaments are relevant for all people at all t

imes, and for all of life. Our subordinate standards are the Westminster Standards (comprised of the Confession of Faith, and Larger and Shorter Catechisms). We focus on the simple means of grace prescribed in God's Word - Scripture read and preached, the sacraments, prayer, and worship. If you live in the Orange City area or are visiting, please visit us on the Lord's Day, we would love to have you! Our Elders are:
Mark Fedders,
Matt Van Essendelft,
Gary Vander Hart. Our Deacons are:
Vinny De Groot,
Steve Postema.

This coming Lord's day evening, we will be using WCF Chapter 6, Art. 1 as our confession of faith. This chapter's heading is "Of the fall of Man, of sin, and of the punishment thereof". It start with "Our first parents". This is an important statement as it affirms the real, historical account of Genesis. The current pressure on the church to buy into evolution undermines this statement. When God created man and woman in His own image, He did it -as Jesus said in Mark 10:6- "..from the beginning of creation". If death and corruption (the effects of sin, Romans 5:12) were present before Adam, then was creation good as Genesis testifies? Was sin present prior to Adam? Did Adam's sin really effect us all? (Rom. 5:18) Are we really made righteous by the act of one Man's obedience? (Romans 5:19) Evolutionary thought does not only question a real Adam with real consequences for his sin; it also questions the reliability of God to communicate clearly where sin comes from as well as what His gracious solution is! Take a moment and read Romans 5 to see the love that God demonstrates to you through the person and work of Jesus Christ!

This evening (12/11) we will be confessing our faith together from the Westminster Confession of Faith (WCF) - Chapter 4, Article 2 On Creation:

"After God had made all other creatures, he created man, male and female,(d) with reasonable and immortal souls,(e) endued with knowledge, righteousness, and true holiness, after his own image;(f) having the law of God written in their hearts,(g) and power to fulfill it:(h) and yet under a possibility of transgressing, being left to the liberty of their own will, which was subject unto change.(i) Beside this law written in their hearts, they received a command, not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; which while they kept, they were happy in their communion with God,(k) and had dominion over the creatures.(l)"

(d) Gen 1:27
(e) Gen 2:7; Eccl 12:7; Luke 23:43; Matt 10:28
(f) Gen 1:26; Col 3:10; Eph 4:24

Tomorrow night, we will be looking at WCF Chapter 4, beginning with Article 1:

Of Creation

1. It pleased God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,(a) for the manifestation of the glory of his eternal power, wisdom, and goodness,(b) in the beginning, to create, or make of nothing, the world, and all things therein whether visible or invisible, in the space of six days; and all very good.(c)

This coming Sunday evening we will be using WCF Chapter 3, art. 8 for our confession of faith.

"The doctrine of this high mystery of predestination is to be handled with special prudence and care,(s) that men, attending the will of God revealed in his Word, and yielding obedience thereunto, may, from the certainty of their effectual vocation, be assured of their eternal election.(t) So shall this doctrine afford matter of praise, reverence, and admiration of God;(u) and of humility, diligence, and abundant consolation to all that sincerely obey the gospel.(w)"

(s) Rom 9:20; Rom 11:33; Deut 29:29
(t) 2 Pet 1:10; 1 Thess 1:4-5

Acts 2:32-36

This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Until I make thy foes thy footstool. Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

This Sunday evening we will be using WCF Chapter 3, art. 3 for our confession of faith. This particular truth about God has been one of the most difficult to accept for many Christians. Often times the discussion and wrestling with God's sovereignty in election is placed in the category of justice or "fairness". Romans 9 has much to say about this truth. It is very helpful to pay attention to how the Scriptures place the discussion in the category of "Mercy" and "Compassion" instead of "justice". This is what Romans 9:14 tells us. Let us with great joy and humility confess this great truth together! WCF Chap. III. art. 3 "By the decree of God, for the manifestation of his glory, some men and angels (a) are predestined unto everlasting life, and others fore-ordained to everlasting death.(b)" a. Mat 25:41; 1 Tim 5:21. • b. Prov 16:4; Rom 9:22-23; Eph 1:5-6.

Job 19:25-27

For I know that my redeemer liveth,
and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
And though after my skin worms destroy this body,
yet in my flesh shall I see God:
Whom I shall see for myself,
and mine eyes shall behold,
and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

It is the Lord's Day! Be glad, and shout with joy to Him who is worthy to be praised! May we gather this morning in one accord to worship our God in Spirit and in Truth, and eat our fill of the bread of His Word!

Psalm 113
1 Praise God: ye servants of the Lord,
O praise, the Lord's name praise.
2 Yea, bless-ed be the name of God
from this time forth always.

3 From rising sun to where it sets,
God's name is to be praised.
4 Above all nations God is high,
'bove heav'ns his glory raised.

5 Unto the Lord our God that dwells
on high, who can compare?
6 Himself that humbleth things to see
in heav'n and earth that are.

7 He from the dust doth raise the poor,
that very low doth lie;
And from the dunghill lifts the man
oppressed with poverty;

8 That he may highly him advance,
and with the princes set;
With those that of his people are
the chief, ev'n princes great.

9 The barren woman house to keep
he maketh, and to be
Of sons a mother full of joy.
Praise to the Lord give ye.

10/14/2016

This Lord's Day evening, we will begin by confessing our faith together using Westminster Confession, Chapter 3, Art. 2.

God knows what happens because he decreed it should be so! Praise the Lord we can truly say with Paul, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)

2. Although God knows whatsoever may or can come to pass upon all supposed conditions,(d) yet hath he not decreed anything because he foresaw it as future, or as that which would come to pass upon such conditions.(e)

(d) 1 Sam 23:11-12; Matt 11:21,23
(e) Rom 9:11,13,16,18

Psalm 50:16-23

But unto the wicked God saith,
What hast thou to do to declare my statutes,
or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
Seeing thou hatest instruction,
and castest my words behind thee.
When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him,
and hast been partaker with adulterers.
Thou givest thy mouth to evil,
and thy tongue frameth deceit.
Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother;
thou slanderest thine own mother's son.
These things hast thou done, and I kept silence;
thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.
Now consider this, ye that forget God,
lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.
Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me:
and to him that ordereth his conversation aright
will I shew the salvation of God.

Sorry for the delay folks!

This Lord's Day evening, we will begin by confessing our faith together using Westminster Confession, Chapter 2, Art. 3.

This is one incredibly important article to meditate on given modern misunderstandings of the Trinity. It wouldn't hurt to look at this article against the backdrop of the historic orthodox creeds (i.e. The Athanasian Creed), and to of course read through the Scripture proofs as a starting point for understanding this section of the Confession of Faith and the doctrine of the Trinity.

III. In the unity of the Godhead there be three persons, of one substance, power, and eternity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.(a) The Father is of none, neither begotten nor proceeding; the Son is eternally begotten of the Father;(b) the Holy Ghost eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son. (c)

(a) Mat 3:16-17; 28:19; 2 Cor 13:14; 1 John 5:7. (b) John 1:14, 18.
(c) John 15:26; Gal 4:6.
