What if we imagined from love instead of fear?

In her book “Pleasure Activism,” Adrienne Maree Brown reminds us that how we perceive our bodies—and each other’s—is shaped by deeply rooted, fearful ideas about difference.

But we can choose another way.

As Unitarian Universalists, we believe in liberation, in the sacred worth of every body, and in the transformative power of imagination. Reclaiming what’s possible is not just creative—it’s spiritual. It’s justice work.

We can begin today by asking:
What stories have we been taught about bodies, and what are we ready to unlearn together?

For 34 years in the 20th century, a set of censorship guidelines called the Hays Code limited what could and couldn’t be on the silver screen in order to avoid political pushback. The Hays Code changed the depiction of q***rness in media, and we still experience some of the consequences today. This Sunday, Deanna Leary dives into the journey q***r storytelling has taken to keep our stories alive. The good, the bad, and the harmful tropes.

🎶 “I never expected a church to be a major part of my life. Unitarian Universalism, however, is so much more than a church to me.” —David Kaye

David’s journey to Unitarian Universalism began with a bass guitar and a Motown groove—but it became a path to belonging, love, and living authentically.

In a community where music, identity, and spirit all have a place, David discovered not just a church, but a faith that welcomed all of him.

This Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 11:00am, we are gathering at Gemini Springs Park for our annual Flower Communion event. Please bring a flower with you for this traditional UU spring ritual! Also - please bring your own chairs or blankets to sit on, plus your own food and drink in case you get hungry. Someone frequently brings a goodie to share. Family and/or friends are always welcome.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Into the Unknown, Seeking Truth
March 16, 2025 11:00 am
Janice Holloway, Matthew Pargeter-Villarreal
From Michael Servetus and Francis David, to William Ellery Channing and Theodore Parker, many of our forebears risked their reputation—and often their lives—in pursuit of a religious freedom that they would never see in their lifetimes, but would hopefully be enjoyed by future generations. Join Rev. Matthew Pargeter-Villareal for a discussion of how we arrived at the religious freedom that we enjoy in UU churches—and what it took to get us there.
