All life is precious

"Life at all stages is precious. The dark realities of sin and death cling close during
these years, but we can look forward with hope to when Christ will raise our physical
bodies to be imperishable." —Pastor Andrew Kneeland, editor-in-chief

Our January issue explores six categories of life that God deems precious: children (Pastor Dennis Norby), creation (Isaac Skogerboe), the orphan (Pastor Nick and Shelley Dyrud), the widow (Laurie Nash), the stranger (Pastor Miao "Holmes" Zhao), and the elderly (Katrina Zeltinger). Click below to read these articles, as well as reflections from two of our new columnists for the year!

Week 2 of Advent
__

“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost'" (Luke 15:4-6).

Christmastime often sparks a deep longing to be home—either because we miss our home and family, or because our memories of each are traced with pain, or sometimes both. It’s a longing that tells us we were made to be somewhere safe, with people who love us, without fear or restlessness or uncertainty. Human homes can give us a picture of this, but they all fall short, too.

Jesus comes to bring you to His home.

The home that Jesus offers you doesn’t fall short. It’s safe, built with His love. There is no need to be tentative. Here you are fed by Jesus. Here you can be a child, sheltered under the wings of the Father and comforted by the Holy Spirit. Here you are forgiven, taken care of. Here you can rest.

Would you like a home with Jesus? The infant who was laid in a feed trough, the man who had no place to lay His head, the God who took all our loneliness and longing on Himself—He has found you, lost in the world and in sin, and carried you on His shoulders. He has opened His door to you.

Welcome home.

December's issue is here for you! Add depth to your Christian walk with worthwhile reading.

"Our issue this month looks at three aspects of this familiar Christmas story that are worth reflecting upon once again," writes our editor Pastor Andrew Kneeland. "Three reminders that God chooses the small and foolish things of the world to shame what we consider wise."

Click below to read articles from Jessica McCarlson, Andrea Christenson, and Pastor Matthew Ballmann, devotional thoughts from Pastor Todd Schierkolk and Renah Thompson, and updates from our AFLC ministries.

Oh dear! Halfway through November before I share the Lutheran Ambassador! Is time flying faster?

"We can be thankful for Christ’s death and resurrection," writes our editor, "which guarantee us that in the end, everything will be okay. Even through painful times, Jesus guided and guarded his church, and we can be certain he will continue to guide and guard us today."

Our November issue offers the chance to hear testimonies of God's help and provision—stories that remind us he is always at work for the good of those love him. We pray you would read and reflect on your own story with Jesus, and thank him for all he has done.
