Last weekend, Pastor Matt led us through Psalm 2, pairing each of its stanzas with images and prayers that we can use when we are faced with situations that cause us fear and anger 🗻

He encouraged us to use the feeling of being intimidated as a notification to remind us to pray and ask for God’s help. We often reduce prayer to a small thing we do when we have run out of bigger options, but Pastor Matt reminded us that prayer is the means that God has chosen to expand His rule on this Earth. When we respond to trials by lifting our eyes to the Lord and closing them in prayer, we will not be shaken.

Last weekend, Pastor Thad preached on Psalm 46:1-11 🗻

The Psalms can act as a guidebook for how to pray when we are faced with uncertainty.

We build our “refuge reflexes” every day! We pick where to go with the uncertainties of life. When we face financial hardship, we run to a financial advisor. When we face emotional hardship, we run to a friend or family member. It’s easy to build a refuge based on what you can see, and the stability you think it is going to offer, but this Psalm says that even the mountains can move. This is why we should run to God. He never changes, and He is our refuge and strength in times of trouble. When we trust in Him amid uncertainties, we can experience peace, joy, and security.

This week, Pastor Thad launched our brand new sermon series: Unshaken 🌄

How can we remain unshaken when we face distraction, uncertainty, intimidation, and sickness? Not by trying harder, but by drawing closer to the God who never changes.

How do we draw closer to God? Psalm 1 teaches us that we can draw near to God by abiding in the Bible and praying. We are shaped in these practices by the daily decisions we make, the influence of the people we surround ourselves with, and the attitudes we have as we relate to God and to one another. In all of these, Psalm 1 provides warning and direction to help guide Christians to live wisely and bear good fruit.

🗓️ It’s August 1st! As our summer meet ups come to an end and fall is on the horizon, we have many opportunities to learn, grow, and connect here at Church in the Valley.

🌊 Sunday, 8/9 at 8:30 and 9:45 am — Are you interested in getting baptized? We will be offering a baptism overview class for kids at 8:30 am, and another class for adults at 9:45 am. Please sign up on the Church Center app if you plan to attend!

🍞 Sunday, 8/9 at 7:00 pm — Everyone who has committed their life to Christ is invited to join us for our Lord’s Supper service. Please sign up on the Church Center app if you plan to attend! Childcare will be provided.

🌊 Sunday, 8/16 at 12:15 pm — We plan to gather in the sanctuary after second service for baptisms. If you are interested in getting baptized, please attend one of our baptism classes on 8/9!

🤝🏻 Wednesday, 8/19 at 7:00 pm — The men of CIV will gather together for coffee and appetizers and hear from a panel of faithful men who have walked with God through real trials of life. This event is for high-school aged men and up! Please sign up on the Church Center app if you plan to attend!

And of course, we have worship services every Sunday at 9:30 and 11 am. We will be kicking off a new sermon series this weekend with donuts! 🍩 We hope to see you there!

This week, Steve Kish wrapped up our Life-to-Life series with a message on 1 Corinthians 1:10 and the appeal to agree with one another 🤝🏻

As believers, we must agree about issues of orthodoxy, such as the Trinity, the Doctrine of Christ, the Resurrection, and the authority of Scripture. As members of the same local body of believers here at Church in the Valley, we must also agree about certain issues of orthopraxy (Christian practice), such as baptism, the Lord’s Supper, and the organization of church leadership.

Beyond these, there are many things we can disagree about. This command is not one to be in complete agreement about all things, but to stay united in our purpose as the church. When we agree with one another about these core issues, it pleases God and advances the mission of the Gospel.

With that, we have officially concluded our Life-to-Life summer message series! We hope you have enjoyed learning about how we ought to treat one another as brothers and sisters in Christ, and we pray you have seen the fruit of practicing these things within your household and at Church in the Valley ❤️

Last weekend, Steve Kish preached on 1 John 1:7 and why we are commanded to be in fellowship with one another.

If we are not in fellowship with one another, how can we obey such commands as love one another, bear one another’s burdens, and confess your sins to one another? To do life God’s way, we must do it together!

Fellowship pleases God because it is a tangible way people can see His love and kindness. As we fellowship with one another, we glorify God and become better equipped to follow Him.
