Maximilian was born in 1894 in Poland and became a Franciscan. He contracted tuberculosis and, though he recovered, he remained frail all his life. Before his ordination as a priest, Maximilian founded the Immaculata Movement devoted to Our Lady. After receiving a doctorate in theology, he spread the Movement through a magazine entitled "The Knight of the Immaculata" an

d helped form a community of 800 men, the largest in the world. Maximilian went to Japan where he built a comparable monastery and then on to India where he furthered the Movement. After the N**i invasion in 1939, he was imprisoned and released for a time. But in 1941 he was arrested again and sent to the concentration camp at Auschwitz. On July 31, 1941, in reprisal for one prisoner's escape, ten men were chosen to die. Father Kolbe offered himself in place of a young husband and father. And he was the last to die, enduring two weeks of starvation, thirst, and neglect. He was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1982. His feast day is August 14th.

THE PROMISES OF THE LORD ARE TRUSTWORTHY:

DISCIPLESHIP:
-if anyone wants to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me. (Mark.8:34)
-Whoever wants to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for my sake and for the sake of the gospel, will find it. (Mk. 8:35)
- I am the good Shepherd, I know my sheep and my sheep know me (Jn.10:14)
- The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life; they will never be lost. No one can sn**ch them away from me (Jn. 10:27-28)
-Anyone who wants to serve me, must follow me so that wherever I am, there my servant will be also. (Jn. 12:26)
-Everyone will know that you are my disciples by the love you have for one another. (Jn>13:35)
-Anyone who receives my commandments and obeys them is the one who loves me. My Father will love anyone who loves me; I will love him also and reveal myself to him. (Jn. 14:21)
_ You all belong to the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it (1Cor.12:27)

THE PROMISES OF THE LORD ARE TRUSTWORTHY:

DELIVERANCE
-The deliverance I am bringing will last forever; my victory will be finial (Is. 51:6)
-He pulled me out of horrible pit and set my feet firmly on a rock. He put a news song in my mouth-a song of praise to our God (Ps. 40:2-3)
-If you obey my words, you will be my disciples indeed. You will know the truth and the truth will set you free (Jn 8:31-32)
-Now that you have been set free from sin, and have become servants of, God, your gain is a life fully dedicated to him and the result is live everlasting (Rom. 6:22)
-In love there is no fear, because perfect love drives out all fear (1 Jn. 4:18)
