Job 5:9 “Who does great things, and unsearchable, Marvelous things without number” NKJV
Devotional (Christian Cross Ministries Today’s Author: Isabella)
This last week, I was reading my Bible, as at the time, I had been reading in the book of Acts. Now, as most of you may know, the book of Acts is particularly unique because it tells about when the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4), and it talks about life, for both the Apostles and Paul, after Jesus ascended into heaven.
Continuing on, I had been reading Acts 3, which partially talks about Peter healing a man who could not walk. I read and read, until I realized something: A miracle, made possible by God using Peter’s willingness, made a man walk, a man who had been this way since birth, and I merely read over it without being thoroughly amazed at it.
To be honest, I feel this happens often, too often. In Sunday school, we hear about God creating the world (Genesis 1), or how God sent a giant fish to swallow Jonah then spit him back out alive (Jonah 1:17-2:10), or even learning about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego being thrown into King Nebuchadnezzar’s furnace and walking out unscathed (Daniel 3:19-27).
Pretty amazing, huh! As we get older, we begin to lose that sense of pure awe of how incredible miracles like this are. It’s just a cool story that’s in the Bible. Do we lose the sense of amazement because we’ve heard it so many times? If that’s the case, that’s a major problem.
When we learn of all God has done, our jaws should be dropping because of how great and mighty our Lord is! We shouldn’t just phase over it because we’ve read it a number of times. If that’s the case, we need to ask for a fresh pair of eyes, a renewed mind and spirit, to be caught in the pure wonder of all the Lord has done. That childish wonder and pure sense of WOW! needs to be returned to us.
When you go about your reading this week, I’d encourage you to, firstly, pray for a fresh set of eyes to see the wonders of the Lord. Secondly, I’d encourage you to repeatedly request this.
Our God isn’t a one hit wonder, no, He’s the one who created the Earth, the whole universe, because He wanted to. He didn’t leave Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego alone in the fire, nope, He was the fourth man in there with them. Our God is a God of wonders.
Prayer:
Father Thank You for each reader of this short devotion will refresh their lives with the awe of Your incredible miracles through Jesus, The Patriarchs and the Apostles that will transform their life today. In The Name of The Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
