Job 5:9 “Who does great things, and unsearchable, Marvelous things without number” NKJV

Devotional (Christian Cross Ministries Today’s Author: Isabella)

This last week, I was reading my Bible, as at the time, I had been reading in the book of Acts. Now, as most of you may know, the book of Acts is particularly unique because it tells about when the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4), and it talks about life, for both the Apostles and Paul, after Jesus ascended into heaven.

Continuing on, I had been reading Acts 3, which partially talks about Peter healing a man who could not walk. I read and read, until I realized something: A miracle, made possible by God using Peter’s willingness, made a man walk, a man who had been this way since birth, and I merely read over it without being thoroughly amazed at it.

To be honest, I feel this happens often, too often. In Sunday school, we hear about God creating the world (Genesis 1), or how God sent a giant fish to swallow Jonah then spit him back out alive (Jonah 1:17-2:10), or even learning about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego being thrown into King Nebuchadnezzar’s furnace and walking out unscathed (Daniel 3:19-27).

Pretty amazing, huh! As we get older, we begin to lose that sense of pure awe of how incredible miracles like this are. It’s just a cool story that’s in the Bible. Do we lose the sense of amazement because we’ve heard it so many times? If that’s the case, that’s a major problem.

When we learn of all God has done, our jaws should be dropping because of how great and mighty our Lord is! We shouldn’t just phase over it because we’ve read it a number of times. If that’s the case, we need to ask for a fresh pair of eyes, a renewed mind and spirit, to be caught in the pure wonder of all the Lord has done. That childish wonder and pure sense of WOW! needs to be returned to us.

When you go about your reading this week, I’d encourage you to, firstly, pray for a fresh set of eyes to see the wonders of the Lord. Secondly, I’d encourage you to repeatedly request this.

Our God isn’t a one hit wonder, no, He’s the one who created the Earth, the whole universe, because He wanted to. He didn’t leave Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego alone in the fire, nope, He was the fourth man in there with them. Our God is a God of wonders.

Prayer:
Father Thank You for each reader of this short devotion will refresh their lives with the awe of Your incredible miracles through Jesus, The Patriarchs and the Apostles that will transform their life today. In The Name of The Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

He said to him, “Follow me,” and he got up and followed him. Matthew 9:9b

Devotional (Pastor Linda Haight)

In the extended version of the story of the call to Matthew to follow, found in Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26, we see several people following. Jesus calls Matthew from his position as tax collector to live as a disciple of Jesus. Further on in the scripture, we see a woman’s illness calling her to follow Jesus for healing and then a daughter’s death calling a father to follow Jesus for restoration.

God is always pursuing us to follow, to seek, to find, and ultimately to feel God’s great love for us in all circumstances. Matthew was looked upon as being a sinner of ill repute and yet Jesus called him to leadership and learning. The woman was looked upon as being an outcast and unclean and yet Jesus healed and restored her to relationship. The ruler was looked upon with pity and death but was restored to joy and life.

What in your circumstances seem insurmountable to you when it comes to having a relationship with Jesus? Just maybe the thing that makes you feel the farthest from God at this moment is the thing leading you to follow Jesus closely.

Throw aside judgement, fears, traditions, and uncertainties and take a step closer to the One capable of changing your circumstances to the good. Seek, find, and follow Jesus and you also may find your reputation reviving, your illness waning, and your grief turning to joy.

Jesus is calling, are you ready to follow?

Prayer
Thank you God for still wanting a relationship with us despite our circumstances. May we rise and follow knowing you are worthy of our devotion. Amen

Matthew 5:16
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” NKJV

Devotional (Christian Cross Ministries)

Twenty centuries after Jesus walked on the earth an anonymous traveler tells us the mud felt like wet cement as she spread it over her arms and face at the shore of the Dead Sea. The sun baked it into a cracking layer until she stepped into the dense, salty water, floating effortlessly as the minerals on her face washed away. Yes, this is where Jesus walked.

That’s when a ten-year-old boy named Ali looked at her and asked, “Is your son a Muslim?” She answered, "my son follows Jesus," he responded quietly as he looked into the ground, “Then we can’t be friends.”

His holy book made it clear that he was not to make a Christian his friend.

Anyone standing knee-deep in one of the saltiest places on earth can hear how hearts are shaped by twisted lines that God never intended.

The normal instinctual response in moments like this is to overreact: Argue, correct, or withdraw! But my scripture calls me to keep showing up. To live and relate in ways that lovingly challenge what people think they “know” about Christ and all Christians.

Standing tall for The Lord Jesus Christ in real encounters makes others consider the Truth being lived out before them. Often, it’s not arguments that change hearts, it’s an encounter that reflects a personal relationship with Our Lord.

Jesus said it best in today’s scripture about how we shine His light. Not from a distance, but up close and personal. Not just in word or theory, but in relationships and actions that reflect His love. His love is for everyone who accepts Him.

Prayer:
Father Thank You for opportunities for me to share the Love of Jesus in a world that is in need of His love, joy and peace. In The name of The Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Deuteronomy 31:6a
"Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you” NKJV

Devotional (Christian Cross Ministries)

The Prussian King, Frederick the Great, was widely known as a Realist in the age of Enlightenment --- the 17th and 18th centuries. He was victorious in many battles expanding his kingdom at every opportunity. Although he was often accused of being agnostic, he walked in the shadow of the church. By contrast, his most trusted General, and best friend, was a devout Christian.

Victory after victory the king held bountiful celebrations.

Thus it was that during one of these victory parties, the king had a bit too much wine. He began making crude jokes about Christ. The more he drank the more crude his language became. The crowd kept right up with the king in drink and slanderous laughter. Everyone joined in --- even the clergy that was present --- all participated except his most trusted general.

The general finally had enough, he arose and addressed the king: "Sire, you know I have not feared death. I have fought and won nearly 40 battles for you. I am now an old man; I shall soon have the opportunity to go into the presence of One greater than you. The mighty God who saved me from my sin, the Lord Jesus Christ whom you are blaspheming. I salute you, sire, as an old man who loves his Savior, on the edge of eternity."

Throughout history it has never been a good thing to challenge a king. Especially in front of his subjects.

The palace was silent. All eyes were focused on the king. In the past, for far less, men were thrown in the dungeon. They were never to be heard of again. A few minutes, of the two staring at one another, felt like a week to the watchers.

Trembling the king stood to his feet and addressed the crowd, "General, I beg your pardon! --- I beg your pardon!" Then the king sat down.

And with that the party quietly ended.

Prayer:
Father the courage, bravery and the guts of this general are all qualities I desire in my life. Help me to defend You, the Holy Spirit and the Lord Jesus Christ, just as the general did whenever and wherever necessary. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Acts 27:13b
"They were no sooner out to sea than a gale-force wind, the infamous nor'easter, struck. They lost all control of the ship" MSG (Bible Paraphrase)

Devotional (Christian Cross Ministries)

Just how much does it take to lose control?

The story is told of a US Air Force pilots report about crashing his airplane:
"After catastrophic engine failure, I landed long. As I had no power, the landing gear failed to deploy and no braking was available. I bounced over the stone wall at the end of the runway, struck the trailer of a truck while crossing the perimeter road, crashed through the guardrail, grazed a large pine tree, ran over a tractor parked in the adjacent field, and hit another tree. Then I lost control."

For most just the catastrophic engine failure would have resulted in an attitude of "it's all over now but the shouting." And we would have just given up. But we can only imagine that our pilot did some very remarkable things:

With no landing gear and no ability to break perhaps he instantaneously said a prayer and then hit the runway with the belly of his aircraft. He was still in control!

He must have been flopping up and down on the runway because his next action was to control the bounce so he hopped over the stone wall.

Perhaps he said, "Jesus I need some help now." And he was still in control!

Next was his ability to steer the bouncing plane to miss a moving truck and its fuel tanks and only hit the trailer.

"Thank you Lord for steering me clear."

Once again still in control!

Then he crashed right through a guard rail grazing a large pine tree missing the trunk --- still in control of his aircraft!

Then he ran over a tractor in a field and impacted with the final tree.

Lord I can't do this --- HELP!"

He finally relinquished control!

Self-control is a lot like that. The Christian life is all about self-control. Overcoming catastrophic addictions, gossip, life style impurities and a host of other maladies. Like our US Air Force pilot there are opportunities which challenge our self-control. Our pilot focused on staying alive, and maintained control until the catastrophic end.

Lord I need your help and strength to walk away from this catastrophic addiction --- right now!

Jesus help is needed from all the catastrophic gossip being spread at work.

Help me Christ to bounce my eyes from catastrophic evil distractions.

Prayer:
Father blanket me with your love today. Holy Spirit empower me with your wisdom to make excellent kingdom self-control choices turning catastrophic situations around. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Psalm 91:11
"He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways" NKJV

Devotional (Christian Cross Ministries)

Life on the farm just before World War 2 was tough. For Victor and Effie running water inside the house was still to come. Every day the pump handle of the well served as their source for cool fresh Minnesota water.

Victor was always busy milking cows and keeping the hired hands active. Effie controlled the kitchen and the homestead. She served up a hearty midday meal that rivaled a Thanksgiving feast. Life was tough but they lived well.

When Effie needed water, it was a trip out to the pump handle. Day in and day out. The heat of summer, the bitter cold of winter and seasons in between. A trip to the pump handle delivered necessary cool pure Minnesota water.

This day would be different. Storm clouds were forming in the west. It was a hot day and water was needed for the midday meal. Effie was in the kitchen and the men were in the barn about 100 yards away --- midway in-between stood the pump handle. The clouds were rolling in while thunder could be overhead. Effie looked out the window and knew she needed water before the rains came. She thought to herself. "Better go now."

Hurriedly she stepped out of the house with bucket in hand, making her way the fifty or so yards to the pump. By the time she arrived the wind had whipped to a frenzy, the rain was just beginning to come down and it was now or never for the metal pump handle.

Just as Effie reached out to touch the handle an unseen arm swept her back as a flash of lightening hit the bare metal of the pump handle.

Effie's Angel had been with her from the start. She always started her day with prayer for protection. This day the Lord through her Angel provided exactly the protection she prayed for.

For 50 years you could hear Effie tell the story of her amazing Angel. The Angel with the arm that moved her ever so timely preventing her from being hit by the bolt of lightning. The lightning strike that demolished the well housing and would have instantaneously taken her life.

Prayer:
Father thank you for your Angels on assignment when we need them most. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

1 John 4:3
“Every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world” NKJV

Devotional (Christian Cross Ministries)

Traits of Anti-Christ (A-C)

1. A-C Claims to be God and is Worshiped
2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 “Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God” NKJV

2. A-C Will Blaspheme God
Revelation 13:6a “Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name” NKJV

3) A-C Will Display Miraculous Powers
Revelation 13:13 “Performed great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to the earth in full view of the people.” NKJV

4) A-C Comes Back to Life
Revelation 13:12b “causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

5) A-C Rules in Full Authority
Revelation 13:5 “And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months” NKJV

6) A-C Controls World’s Economy
Revelation 13:16-17 “He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name” NKJV

7) A-C Causes Earth’s Armies to Fight Against Christ
Rev 19:19 “I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army” NKJV

There are more, but some consider these the most obvious.

Prayer:
Father thank you for Your wisdom and perfect timing. Motivate me to know, understand and be prepared. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

“in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19

Devotional (Joseph Masters, Christian History Institute)

Is there anything in the world of such unspeakable importance to us as to know who God is? … We have received everything from God. We belong to him; we are surrounded by him; we are in his hands. Our eternity is to be with the blessed Trinity—with God in a companionship of unspeakable delights; for if we are exiled from him, the absence of that blessed Trinity, will be our intolerable misery. Of what unspeakable importance then is it for us to seek after him and find him out. It is through the never-ending ever-multiplying love of these three persons that we are daily drawn into closer union with the Godhead; it is not only, as David tells us, the greatness of his mercy, but the multitude of his mercies, which makes our trust and confidence in him so inexpressibly consoling, and our union with him so far more intimate than any other tie of which we can conceive. Through the Father’s creating love—the Son’s redeeming love — and the Holy Spirit’s sanctifying love, we are one with God, as our Lord Jesus Christ prayed that we might be, even as the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost are one.

God in three persons, the ever-blessed Trinity, is not only our first cause and fountain….but he is also our last end. And that because he is the reason of our existing at all, because it is for him, for his own glory that we live, and not in anyway for our own sakes; and he is also our last end because we go to him, and rest nowhere but in himself; not in any gifts which he gives us, but simply in his own ever-living, ever-blessed self. Nothing in life has any meaning, except as it draws us further into God, and presses us more closely to him.

Let us look at our whole life by the light of this truth, that God—Father, Son, and Holy Ghost—one in three, is the full, perfect, and blessed Beginning and End of every soul which he has created, redeemed, and sanctified.

Prayer (written by Arnold Ruddat)

O triune God, what an exciting mystery we celebrate today, that you, our God, are three persons in one being. Your essence is so awesome, it is beyond our understanding. O Father, you adopted us as your children through the death and resurrection of your Son. O Holy Spirit, you gave us faith in Jesus through explosive power of the gospel. You testify that we are God’s children, and you guarantee our inheritance of eternal glory with Jesus. O holy Trinity, your saving love overwhelms us. Keep us as your own, and each day move us to declare: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty! We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy spirit, one God, through all eternity. Amen.

Romans 15:13
"I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit" NLT (Bible Paraphrase)

Devotional (Christian Cross Ministries)

Scientists are taught that there are laws governing the universe. What they are not taught is that FAITH is needed defining how the universe is built around reliable mathematical laws. They are taught that these laws were created by an unspecified source. Their FAITH then is in an unspecified source!

Gravity, speed of light and the speed of sound are laws that remain unchanged. Thus in 1961 when President John F. Kennedy challenged our industrial complex to put a man on the moon, the country reacted. We mobilized an army of scientists, engineers and mathematicians who did what many thought could not be done --- a man walked on the moon in less than nine years.

When the moon challenge was made there were no blue prints, no formulas and no one to show us how. Yet there were basic laws --- dependable, reliable laws in place in the universe. It was those building blocks that the foundation for walking on the moon was built.

The challenge turned to creative planning --- think tanks --- out of the box developments --- and an achievement that came from the laws that govern everything?

Clearly FAITH was placed in the laws governing the universe.

The same laws that are relevant today --- it is now commonplace to send men into space. In fact space has been crowded with projectiles. The God of our universe who placed the laws in motion that govern all life never changes. He is the same today as He was 6,000 years ago. He is the same as He will be at the last trump. My moods and attitudes vacillate. My actions are unpredictable --- but God, the God of the Universe never changes.

And that is the reason we can absolutely, without question, believe the promises of God. The Special Promises so eloquently expressed in His love letters to us --- in the Bible.

It takes FAITH to believe in the mathematical laws that rule our universe.

So why is it so hard for some to stand in FAITH and believe the One who created the mathematical laws of the Universe?

Hebrews 11:6
"Without faith no one can please God. Anyone who comes to God must believe that He is real and that He rewards those who truly want to find Him" NCV (Bible Paraphrase)

Prayer:
Father thank you that I have a personal intimacy through prayer with You, the God of the universe. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
