Activ8Her Oneida, NY Chapter Activate women to connect in relationships, build confidence in leadership & develop courageous faith

What if the greatest obstacle to breakthrough isn’t weakness but the belief that we’re “doing just fine” on our own?

This month in Activ8Her, we’re diving into — uncovering the subtle ways performance, comparison, pride, or obligation can quietly replace dependence on Jesus.

Self-righteousness doesn’t always look loud or religious. Sometimes it looks like:
• needing to be right
• measuring yourself against others
• performing for approval
• struggling to receive grace
• judging others while secretly condemning yourself

But Jesus didn’t come to make us better performers. He came to reconcile us to Himself. Together, we’ll explore how breakthrough happens when we stop building identity on our goodness and start resting in His righteousness instead.

This isn’t about shame. It’s about freedom. Freedom from pretending. Freedom from proving. Freedom from carrying what only grace was meant to hold. Remember, "This righteousness is given through faith in[a] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Romans 3:22-23, NIV).

Get ready for honest conversations, heart work, healing, and breakthrough. 💛

Awareness is often the first step toward a breakthrough. Jesus never asked us to carry what only He can hold. Self-striving steals the peace He said we could find by abiding in Him.

Today we honor the brave men and women who laid down their lives in service and sacrifice for others. 🇺🇸

And while many of us pause to remember their sacrifice, I’m also reminded how often we live carrying battles Jesus already fought and sacrificed for us.

Battles for worth.
Battles for approval.
Battles for peace.
Battles to prove we are enough.

Breakthrough happens when we stop striving to carry what Christ already finished. May we remember both sacrifice and surrender today.

I’m not going to lie — the way this culture is set up, it’s easy to believe I’ve somehow failed if I’m not hitting every mark set by everyone else—striving hard enough, fast enough, or effectively enough.

As a young mom, I tried to be everything my kids needed me to be: friend, adviser, counselor, maid, supervisor, emotional support system, chauffeur… and sometimes even their patrol officer. Striving day by day to help them succeed in life until every choice became theirs to make.

As a wife, I found myself striving to manage life at home, which often felt like controlled chaos, until it slowly became a matter of control over decisions I didn’t realize were being shaped by old wounds; choices made through a lens of fear, perfection, and protection.

Now, as a wife, mother, and Mimi, I find myself learning how to be the person God designed me to be and live obediently while being pulled in many directions without letting fear have a voice. Quieting the pull of striving while keeping a healthy balance of serving God and others can be challenging.

Then we added Activ8Her to the mix, and the desire to build a social media presence. Learning how to create, manage, and post—striving to make content that glorifies God and helps others grow in their relationship with Him. Some days it feels daunting. Some days it feels defeating. Before either could sink me into the pit of despair, we enlisted the help of my 12-year-old granddaughter, Emery, for the task — a twelve-year-old! Honestly, that still makes me laugh.

But here’s what I’m learning: every day there is another opportunity to surrender whatever I’m striving for into the care and control of Jesus. Paul reminds me through his words to the Galatians, “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ” (vs.1:10, NIV). There really is only One I need to please.

Here’s to finding a breakthrough from the need to find my identity in anything or anyone other than Christ. Is it time for you to reconcile with your identity in Christ so you can rest and just ?

God told Moses the Israelites couldn’t enter His rest because of unbelief. (Numbers 14:11, Hebrews 3:18-19).

Not lack of effort.
Not lack of activity.
Unbelief.

Could the same be true for us?

We will never fully rest while striving to matter, be loved, or be accepted. The real battle is belief.

The story of Mary and Martha reveals one of the biggest sources of self-striving: The belief that everything depends on us. This month, we are learning how to sit at the feet of Jesus again — without guilt.
