OPC Japan

OPC Japan The official page for the Orthodox Presbyterian Church mission work in Japan.

OPCJapan.com is the official site of the Committee for the Support of OPC Missions in Japan… which is why we go by OPC Japan. Since October 2015, we have been tasked with raising support and awareness for the mission work of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC)—a historic, Reformed denomination—being done in the wonderful country of Japan. OPC Japan exists to raise support and awareness of the c

ritical work being done for the sake of the Gospel in Japan and as a means for the congregations and Presbyteries of the OPC—as well as any individuals who may feel called—to give to this crucial work. Since all of the work of OPC Japan is done on a volunteer basis, 100% of the proceeds from your gift will go to the work of the mission.

People think they are:
wiser than God,
kinder than God,
fairer than God,
more compassionate than God,
more just than God,
more merciful than God.

“For He says to Moses, ‘I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.’ So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.”

Some of the best quotations from R.C. Sproul.
Either we believe and accept what the Scriptures say, that men are dead in sin, or we must redefine the meaning of deadness.

The question of the two angels summarizes the Easter message (my translation Luke 24:5b):

“Why do you seek THE LIVING ONE among THE DEAD ONES?

6 “He is not here, but is risen! REMEMBER how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee,
7 “saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ”
8 ¶ SEND THEY REMEMBERED HIS WORDS.”

We REMEMBER HIS WORDS TOO!

Sober words from my reading this morning;
Mark 13:13 “And you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”

The principle of earnest devotion is clear. We do both, we rely wholly and only upon God’s grace and mercy in Christ AND we commit ourselves to earnestly and zealously honor the Lord with our lives.

A few verses later Jesus warns His followers: “22 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect. 23 But be on guard; I have told you all things beforehand.”

Why doesz he say these things? Because it is what we need to hear and do to be armed and prepared for our future trials and tribulations.

The Apostle Peter makes the same point:

13 ¶ Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;
15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

Despite how these verses are typically translated, there are just two imperative verbs in these verses: “rest your hope fully on the grace…” and “be holy in all your conduct.”

It seems to me that what these verses teach is encapsulated in the song, “Trust and obey for there if no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”

Merry Christmas to all from the OPC Japan MIssion! We were thankful to the Lord that we were able to welcome back missionaries emeritus, Cal and Edie Cummings, to Sendai. We are equally thankful that missionaries emeritus (continuing to serve), Kaz and Katie Yaegashi, joined the meeting from Yamagata. With the help of the Lord, the Cummings will be serving at Nozomi Chapel in Yamamoto from January until May, 2023, while Woody and Laurie Lauer return to the U.S. to visit churches during that time. Please continue to pray for the Lord's blessing on Sendai Megumi Chapel, Yamagata Presbyterian Church, and Yamamoto Nozomi Chapel.

Eriko Suzuki's testimony illustrates how the expectations of Japanese society weigh on an individual,
how hopeless the task of being righteous (for all of us!) truly is,
and how wonderful the good news of God's love and reconciliation through Jesus Christ is for those who hear and believe.

Please pray that the Lord will raise up thousands of ministers and missionaries to proclaim His Word and for tender hearts to hear and believe. How great is the light shining in the darkness!
"Again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.'"

We give thanks for God's provision these last 2 years for Sendai Megumi Church to hold excellent evangelistic lectures at Izumity 21, a large cultural center. Murray Uomoto organized lectures given by experts in Christian literature and creation science. The lower right photo in the poster below shows a portion of the spacious lecture hall where often up to 30 people have gathered for these lectures, introducing them to good literature and science from a Christian perspective.

Due to “corona,” Sept. 4, Sat., former prof Morish*ta spoke from his study in Asahikawa (north of Sapporo) on best-selling Christian authoress Ayako Miura’s “Shiokari Pass,” based on the life of a Christian railway man who gave his life in 1909 to stop a runaway train. The seminar was a blessing to the 12 attending (2 via Skype). (Please cf. the summary: https://www.jclglobal.org/summary-shiokari-pass .)
