THE FEAST OF PENTECOST

Thirty years ago today, on 23 May 1996, the day of his nineteenth birthday, the young Russian Orthodox soldier and martyr of faith Yevgeny Rodionov sealed his confession of Christ with his blood.

After more than three months of captivity, torture and relentless pressure to abandon Orthodoxy, he was given a simple choice. To remove the Cross from his neck, renounce Christ and live or remain faithful and die.

He chose Christ. His mother later recalled that Yevgeny had received his Cross at the age of eleven and never took it off. The Chechens who held him captive demanded not only that he remove it, but that he become one of them. As one of his captors reportedly admitted: “We wanted them to become our brothers. Either we break them, or we kill them.”

They could not break him. In a world that constantly urges compromise, Yevgeny reminds us that the Christian faith is not a slogan. It is a living confession, the willingness to remain faithful even when faith carries a cost.

His mother often said that she did not raise a hero, but simply a good and responsible young man who loved his grandmothers, honoured his mother and quietly carried his Cross. Yet God often reveals His strength through such hidden souls. As the Lord chose fishermen, tax collectors and persecutors to become Apostles, He also chose a humble border guard to remind our generation what true faith looks like.

His Cross has travelled to hospitals and churches, strengthening people alike.

May the Holy example of the Saint and martyr Yevgeny strengthen us in our own struggles, teach us courage in confession, and remind us never to be ashamed of the Cross of our Lord.

Holy Martyr Yevgeny, pray to God for us.🙇

The Ascension of our Lord God
and Savior Jesus Christ

May 21st 2026.
Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m.

The Feast of the Ascension of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ is celebrated each year on the fortieth day after the Great and Holy Feast of Pascha (Easter). Since the date of Pascha changes each year, the date of the Feast of the Ascension changes. The Feast is always celebrated on a Thursday.

The Feast itself commemorates when, on the fortieth day after His Resurrection, Jesus led His disciples to the Mount of Olives, and after blessing them and asking them to wait for the fulfillment of the promise of the Holy Spirit, He ascended into heaven.

Another blessed and wonderful Slava celebration at St. Nicholas Church! With hearts full of gratitude, we give thanks to God and to our patron saint, St. Nicholas, for allowing us to gather once again in faith, love, and unity as we celebrated the 109th Church Slava surrounded by many clergy, faithful parishioners, family, and friends.

Congratulations and God’s abundant blessings to this year’s K*movi, Boban and Leigh Ann Martic. May the Lord grant you and your family health, peace, joy, and many blessed years for your love and dedication to our holy church.

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who traveled from near and far to celebrate this sacred and joyful day with us. Your presence brought warmth, fellowship, and spiritual joy to our parish family.

A heartfelt thank you to all who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this celebration beautiful and welcoming for everyone. May God bless all of our volunteers, church board members, choir, clergy, and every helping hand who gave their time, energy, and love in service to the Church.

Special thanks to our Serbian Sisters Circles and wonderful kitchen ladies, who once again prepared a delicious meal made with love, care, and devotion. Your kindness and hard work are truly a blessing to our community.

May St. Nicholas continue to guide, protect, and pray for all of us, and may the Lord bless our church family with faith, unity, health, and many more years of joyful Slava celebrations together.

Glory to God for everything! ☦️
