STRAIGHT FROM THE PASTOR'S PEN

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, we should set aside a special time with our family and friends to list some of the things we are thankful for. Even if our loved ones are miles away, we can reach out to them via Skype or the telephone to count our blessings. It is amazing that God has given us so much to be thankful for. When we begin to really focus and think about all that we have and all that He has done, we experience an unspeakable joy amf peace that only God can give. I dare you to count your blessings!

From The Pastor
"In its 2016 annual America's Families and Living Arrangements data collection, the U.S. Census Bureau found that a majority of the 73.7 million American children under age 18 live in family with two parents (69%) - a decrease from 88% in 1960. Of those 50.7 million children living in families with two parents, 47.7 million live two married parents and 3 million live with two unmarried parents.

Broken down by race, however, the statistics show stark differences. While 74.3% of all white children below the age of 18 live with both parents, only 38.7% of all African-American minors can say the same. More than 33% of all Black children in the United States under the age of 18 live with unmarried mothers-compared to 6.5% of White children. The figures reflect a general trend: During the 1960-2016 period, the percentage of children living with only their mother nearly tripled from 8 to 23% and the percentage of children living with only their father increased from 1 to 4%."
