Notre Dame Sisters

Notre Dame Sisters We are a group of consecrated Catholic women dedicated to meeting unmet needs, serving God, others and our world. No posting or linking to petitions.

Our social media policy: No ad hominem comments (against the person, rather than about the issue). No endless back and forth between the same two or three people. No snotty comments. No linking to things that have nothing to do with the post. No ridiculously long excerpts from Vatican documents: the relevant quote and a link will do. We will delete comments that we consider out of bounds. Overall,

please give everyone the benefit of the doubt--from the pope to the cardinals to priests to sisters to the laity. Everyone deserves charity.

For 60 years, Sr. Janice Ludvik, ND, has lived a ministry centered on faith and compassion.

Born in David City and raised in Wahoo, Nebraska, Sr. Jan was taught by the Notre Dame Sisters from kindergarten through high school, an experience that inspired her own call to religious life. Throughout six decades as a Notre Dame Sister, she has served as a teacher, pastoral minister, spiritual companion, retreat leader, and advocate for peace and justice.

Sr. Jan has always believed that God is found “in mutual encounters and conversations… and in the stories people share.” Her ministry has been rooted in listening, presence, and walking alongside others through life’s joys and challenges.

As we celebrate Sr. Jan’s 60th Jubilee, we invite you to read her full story and join us in giving thanks for her life of faithful service and dedication to others.

For 75 years, Sr. Ernestine Havlovic, ND, has lived a life rooted in faith, community, and joyful service.

Generations of students and families across Nebraska, Iowa, and Kansas know Sr. Ernestine as a beloved teacher, principal, mentor, and faithful presence. Over the course of 51 years in Catholic education, including 31 years as a principal, she touched countless lives with her compassion, humility, and dedication.

Raised on a farm in Brainard, Nebraska, as the oldest of 15 children, Sr. Ernestine’s life has always reflected the values of hard work, community, and caring for others. Even now, she continues her ministry through prayer and presence.

As we celebrate her 75th Jubilee as a Notre Dame Sister, we invite you to read her full story and join us in giving thanks for her extraordinary witness of faith and service. https://notredamesisters.org/news/sr-ernestine-havlovic-celebrates-75-years-of-faithful-service-as-a-notre-dame-sister/

Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer, it is a day of remembrance, gratitude, and responsibility.

We pause to honor the women and men who gave their lives in service to our nation, remembering that freedom has been carried forward through sacrifice. Their courage calls us not only to remember, but to live in ways that honor their legacy.

A meaningful way to observe Memorial Day is through action:
• Visit a cemetery or memorial
• Learn the story of someone who served
• Reach out to a Gold Star family or veteran
• Volunteer in your community
• Work for peace, justice, and the common good
• Spend a moment in prayer and gratitude

May we remember with humility, serve with purpose, and build a world worthy of their sacrifice.

Graduation season is a time to celebrate achievement, growth, and the power of education, and that mission has long been at the heart of the Notre Dame Sisters.

From 1926–1974, the Sisters operated Notre Dame Academy, forming generations of young women through faith, learning, and leadership. When Notre Dame Academy merged with Rummel to become Roncalli Catholic, many of our Sisters continued their ministry as educators at Roncalli.

That commitment to students continues today. Each year, the Notre Dame Sisters provide need-based scholarships to Roncalli students, helping make Catholic education possible for future generations.

As we honor this year’s graduates, we also celebrate the lasting legacy of educators who believed in the transformative power of learning. Congratulations, Class of 2026!
