A massive THANK YOU to everyone who joined our Care Collective for our May Resin Pouring Class last Friday, May 29th! Because of your creativity, generosity, and willingness to spend an evening making art together, we were able to raise enough money to purchase all the supplies needed for our June 26th Pride Resin Creation Event.

This year, we're doing something especially meaningful: we're making our own Pride swag as a congregation. Every piece will be handcrafted with care by members and friends of FUMC Omaha. These aren't just gifts; they're small acts of welcome, reminders of belonging, and tangible expressions of God's love.

When visitors stop by our booth at Pride, they'll receive something made by human hands and given with an open heart. Each piece will carry a simple but powerful message:

"God Loves You. No Exceptions."

Thank you for helping turn resin, color, and creativity into a ministry of radical hospitality. We can't wait to see what we create together on June 26th and to share that love with our community. For more info on our Pride resin making event visit: https://www.facebook.com/share/1EGRGr7PRM/

Happy Pride Month from First United Methodist Church Omaha! If you’ve driven past the church lately, you may have noticed our front flags looking a little tired; faded by the sun, worn by the weather, and one was flapping around like an inflatable tube man at a car dealership. After years of faithful service, it was time for a refresh.

We’re excited to share that new flags are on the way and should arrive later this month! Along with updated messages like “God Loves You. No Exceptions.”, you’ll also notice an updated Pride Progress Flag flying proudly.

You may notice the added yellow triangle and purple circle and wonder what they represent. These symbols were added to make the flag even more inclusive by recognizing and affirming the intersex community, people born with a combination of male and female biological traits. The purple circle symbolizes wholeness, full embodiment, and the right of every person to live authentically as themselves.

At First United Methodist Church Omaha, our flags are more than decoration. They are a visible reminder of our commitment to radical welcome, inclusion, and love for all people. We believe every person is created in the image of God and deserves to know they belong here exactly as they are.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the beautiful diversity of God’s creation and recommit ourselves to building a world where every LGBTQIA+ person is safe, affirmed, and loved.

Happy Pride, Omaha. You belong here.

From the Great Plains Annual Conference: congratulations to Russ Terman-White on his retirement from the conference. He will continue his work as a chaplain at UNMC. Also retiring this year, former First UMC pastor Chad Anglemyer. Photos are from the stage of the conference floor (thus the white decorative element above Anna’s head) and the dinner celebrating this year’s class of retirees.

Take action by June 3rd regarding the Monumental Arch in D.C.!

Members of the public have the opportunity to provide input on a proposed Monumental Arch at Memorial Circle on the George Washington Memorial Parkway, near Arlington National Cemetery and along the Potomac River.

The location of the proposed Arch will interrupt the highly significant relationship between the Lincoln Memorial, across Arlington Memorial Bridge, to Arlington National Cemetery and Arlington House. Deadline for public comments is Wednesday, June 3rd.

Members of the Salt and Light team will be in the Gathering Place between services this Sunday, May 31, to provide more information, and you can also get all the details at https://savingplaces.org/monumental-arch

Thank you to everyone who joined us this past Sunday for Pentecost!

We heard a beautiful sermon from Rev. Morita titled “A Mighty Rush of Wind,” reminding us that the Spirit continues to move through us and call us into courageous love and action. We were especially blessed by our Pentecost readers, who shared scripture in different languages as a reflection of the Spirit speaking to all people:

✨ Mark Kurtz ~ German
✨ Limesha DeSilva ~ Sinhala
✨ Samuel Folly ~ French
✨ Pamela Smith ~ Yoruba

While children’s Sunday School is currently on hiatus, so our numbers are down until June, the adults certainly didn’t let Morita down during Children’s Time! As a reminder, there is one more week without children’s Sunday School before we kick off our Summer Sunday School season on Sunday, June 7th. A HUGE thank you to everyone who volunteered to help lead and support our children throughout the summer.

If you missed any part of this beautiful service, you can watch it here: https://fumcomaha.org/the-mighty-rushing-wind-among-us/

May we remember that we are all called to bring the ministry of Christ to life in the world.

Today, Monday, May 25th, the FUMC Omaha office will be closed in observance of Memorial Day. On this day, we pause to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to others and to reflect on the cost of sacrifice, peace, and freedom. We hold in prayer all military families, those who carry grief and memory, and all who continue to work toward a world shaped by justice, compassion, and peace.

As we spend time with loved ones, gather in community, or simply rest, may we do so with gratitude and remembrance.

Our office will reopen during regular hours tomorrow, May 26th at 8:30 AM.
