Poor Clare Sisters of Omaha Public Mass Schedule: https://omahapoorclare.org/mass-schedule/

22625 Edgewater Rd, Omaha, NE Clare in North America was established in Omaha. BLESSING OF ST.

On the 15th of August 1878, the first foundation of the Order of St. Mother Magdalen Bentivoglio was the Abbess, appointed by Pope Pius IX, who chose her and her sister Mother Constance Bentivoglio to bring the Poor Clare Sisters to the United States. After failed attempts to set up the Poor Clare Monastery in New York, Cincinnati and Philadelphia, they were received in Omaha by the goodwill and g

enerosity of Bishop James O’Connor who understood and appreciated the value of the contemplative life and mission of religious. It was with the support of Count John Creighton that the establishment was made possible. After Omaha, today there are nineteen other monasteries in the United States. The Poor Clare Sisters of Omaha, part of the Order of St. Clare, are cloistered Roman Catholic nuns, residing in a peaceful area of Northwest Omaha. Prayer is the sole lifework of the Poor Clares, and is how they serve God’s people. Followers of all religious faiths are encouraged to submit their prayer requests to the Poor Clare Sisters of Omaha. You are also welcome to celebrate weekday and Sunday Mass with the Poor Clares at the new monastery. There are also guest rooms available at the monastery for visits or retreats. If you are being called to the contemplative life of a Poor Clare, you are warmly welcome to spend time with the Sisters by invitation as a discerning guest. CLARE:
May Almighty God bless you. May He look upon you with the eyes of His mercy and give you His peace. May He pour forth His graces on you abundantly; and in heaven may He place you among His saints!

Saint Theophilus of Corte

Saint of the Day for May 19

(October 30, 1676 – June 17, 1740)

https://www.franciscanmedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/SODMay19.mp3

Saint Theophilus of Corte’s Story

If we expect saints to do marvelous things continually and to leave us many memorable quotes, we are bound to be disappointed with Saint Theophilus. The mystery of God’s grace in a person’s life, however, has a beauty all its own.

Theophilus was born in Corsica of rich and noble parents. As a young man, he entered the Franciscans and soon showed his love for solitude and prayer. After admirably completing his studies, he was ordained and assigned to a retreat house near Subiaco. Inspired by the austere life of the Franciscans there, he founded other such houses in Corsica and Tuscany. Over the years, he became famous for his preaching as well as his missionary efforts.

Though he was always somewhat sickly, Theophilus generously served the needs of God’s people in the confessional, in the sickroom, and at the graveside. Worn out by his labors, he died on June 17, 1740. He was canonized in 1930.

Reflection

There is a certain dynamism in all the saints that prompts them to find ever more selfless ways of responding to God’s grace. As time went on, Theophilus gave more and more single-hearted service to God and to God’s sons and daughters. Honoring the saints will make no sense unless we are thus drawn to live as generously as they did. Their holiness can never substitute for our own.

Another Saint of the Day for May 19 is Saint Dunstan .

Saint Leopold Mandic

Saint of the Day for May 12

(May 12, 1866 – July 30, 1942)

Saint Leopold Mandic’s story

Western Christians who are working for greater dialogue with Orthodox Christians may be reaping the fruits of Father Leopold’s prayers.

A native of Croatia, Leopold joined the Capuchin Franciscans and was ordained several years later in spite of several health problems. He could not speak loudly enough to preach publicly. For many years he also suffered from severe arthritis, poor eyesight, and a stomach ailment.

For several years Leopold taught patrology, the study of the Church Fathers, to the clerics of his province, but he is best known for his work in the confessional, where he sometimes spent 13-15 hours a day. Several bishops sought out his spiritual advice.

Leopold’s dream was to go to the Orthodox Christians and work for the reunion of Roman Catholicism and Orthodoxy. His health never permitted it. Leopold often renewed his vow to go to the Eastern Christians; the cause of unity was constantly in his prayers.

At a time when Pope Pius XII said that the greatest sin of our time is “to have lost all sense of sin,” Leopold had a profound sense of sin and an even firmer sense of God’s grace awaiting human cooperation.

Leopold, who lived most of his life in Padua, died on July 30, 1942, and was canonized in 1982.

Reflection

Saint Francis advised his followers to “pursue what they must desire above all things, to have the Spirit of the Lord and His holy manner of working” (Rule of 1223 , Chapter 10)—words that Leopold lived out. When the Capuchin minister general wrote his friars on the occasion of Leopold’s beatification, he said that this friar’s life showed “the priority of that which is essential.”
