Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, a day of unimaginable violence changed countless lives.

Today we remember.

We remember those who died in New York, at the Pentagon, and aboard Flight 93.

We remember first responders, caregivers, chaplains, neighbors and strangers who moved toward suffering to help.

We remember survivors and families whose lives were forever changed, and those who continue to live with illness, trauma and grief.

And as people called to ministries of service and accompaniment, we ask what faithful remembrance asks of us now.

May memory deepen our compassion rather than our fear.

May grief strengthen our commitment to peace rather than hatred.

May we resist every attempt to divide neighbors from one another because of religion, race or nationality.

And may we continue to show up wherever people are hurting, carrying the love of Christ into a world still longing for healing.

God of mercy, hold all who grieve.
Make us instruments of your peace.
Teach us the ways that lead to reconciliation, justice and hope.

Amen.

It's just one month until Autumn Renewal! An exciting day, October 10, is planned at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grand Island around the theme of "God Doesn't Make Junk!" from Psalm 139:14, "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made..." Bishop Scott Alan Johnson will lead our Bible Study. The afternoon will be a presentation from Humanities Nebraska presenter Charlotte Endorf. She will speak on "Excess Baggage: Riding the Orphan Train." The afternoon program is open to all members of the community.
