It's official! Squaw Valley Chapel has a new name! I am happy to report that a new name, OLYMPIC VALLEY CHAPEL was approved unanimously by the voting members. This decision was an easy one to make once the resort changed its name and the county, state, and federal agencies are all changing the names of more than 660 geographic features with the name “squaw,” which was officially declared a derogatory term. This decision honors and illustrates the spirit of our opening welcome; “Whoever you are, wherever you are on your spiritual journey you are welcome here!” It also affirms our guiding principles that speak to our core values of growth, inclusion, and diversity. Congratulations, church, on this momentous and inspired decision! May it shine as a guiding light leading us into a vibrant, meaningful future!

WE'RE BACK! Starting Sunday, April 3, 2022 we are resuming in-person worship at the Chapel. We hope you will join us!
As there may still be snow and ice on the parking lot, you may have to park (legally!) along Squaw Peak Road (aka Shirley Canyon Road) or at the Palisades Tahoe lot. (Pro Tip: Get the Mountaineer app for a free ride to and from the chapel anywhere in their service area)

Anyone connected to social media recently has seen requests for prayers for peace in Ukraine. This is a noble and worthy idea, but it is only the beginning. As Christians, we are called to not only pray for peace but to work for it. And how do we work for peace? We work for justice.
Where there is justice, there is peace. Where justice is denied, there is no peace. It is as simple as that.
So, let us work for justice: food for the hungry, water for the thirsty, dignity in our work and learning, honor in our governance, healthcare for all, equity among all people, community among nations, and respect in all things…especially for the Earth we call home.
Once we learn to do this, and once we actually do this, we will not have to learn war anymore.

We have resumed in-person worship at 10:00 each Sunday! We are welcoming members, friends, and neighbors and simply recommend masks for the time being.
