We welcome Cobie Welty as our speaker for tomorrow (Aug. 9).
Note that the worship service now starts at 10:30.

His sermon is "Reasonable Service," based on Romans 12:1-6.

A Living Sacrifice
12 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Gifts of Grace
3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith.

Note that the worship service is now 10:30.

Josh Donaldson is our speaker on July 19. His sermon is entitled "The Loving Church," using references of John 15:17-27, Ephesians 4:1-3, and 1 John 4:6-21.

John 15:17-27 (NIV)

17 This is my command: Love each other.

The World Hates the Disciples
18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. 24 If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason.’

The Work of the Holy Spirit
26 “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me. 27 And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.

Josh Donaldson, pulpit supply preacher, presented some challenges to us Sunday. The title of the sermon was "Servant of the Most High." He used many examples from Scripture of people who were called servants of God and some used that title to describe themselves. The list is long: Abraham, Moses, Caleb, Joshua, David, Paul, Peter, James to name a few.

Questions for us:
How committed are you? If God asked you to do something uncomfortable, would you do it?

Statement: There is too much work needed in the kingdom of God to be bored.

Thanks, Josh, for challenging us and making us think.

Notes about the sermon that Gary Stealey will preach to us on June 28.

The Miracle of Grace

The Ultimate Unique Offering

The Debate: World experts argued over what makes Christianity unique from all other world religions.

The Elimination: Incarnation and resurrection are found in other ancient religious accounts.

The Answer: C.S. Lewis walked into the room and clarified it instantly: "Oh, that's easy. It's grace."
