Maples Youth Group had the amazing opportunity to go out and serve the community of Melber, Kentucky, and surrounding areas, June 13th - June 18th. Our group of 15 youth and 5 chaperones got to experience being the hands and feet of Jesus on this trip and show others what following Christ looks like.
We learned that this group works just as hard as they play, if not more so. While there was time for basketball, knock-out, four-square, and mini golf, there was much more time dedicated to devotion and serving. We cleaned an entire gymnasium and painted some of the walls. We prepped more potatoes and pork chops than we could eat in a lifetime! We organized and cleaned storage spaces and closets at churches. We helped a church member in need that had water damage to her home. We prepared a meal and served it to a homeless community, and we ate with them and we sat with them in their chapel while our youth pastor, Eason Treadway, delivered a message. We served from a food truck all the food we had prepared to a community... nearly 700 plates! The people that run the food truck, a lot of the time, do this all by themselves once a week! π€―
And a huge thank you to Praying Pelican Missions for coordinating our trip, and thank you to our group leaders for providing us with wonderful meals each day and leading us in a circle time each night!
