Christ the King Church

Christ the King is a family of faith, participating in the life of the local, national, and world communities through prayer, worship, and acts of love.

We are a community of believers who come together to rejoice in the gifts that have been bestowed on us by the Creator, and who strive to reflect the love of Jesus Christ in our everyday lives. Our worship space is located in the picturesque shoreline village of Old Lyme, Connecticut, where the Connecticut River meets Long Island Sound. The Celebration of the Eucharist is, of course, at the center

of our parish life, and we invite you to celebrate with us! Mass is celebrated daily at Christ the King Church. Weekdays: 8:00am; Weekend schedule: 5:00 pm Saturdays and
8:00 and 10:30 am on Sundays.

The HARVEST FESTIVAL is coming in a few weeks!! But THIS WEEK we are gratefully collecting your donations to the King’s Rummage Sale! Please bring your gently used furniture, books, housewares, collectibles, toys, sporting goods, jewelry, & more (but no clothes please) to the Parish Hall at Christ the King Church, 1 McCurdy Road Old Lyme.
Donation hours: Sept 1 -12 9am-Noon ((CLOSED Sunday and Monday Sept 6 & 7!!)); also evenings: Thursday Sept 3 & 10, 5-7pm.

This past Sunday was Pentecost Sunday — a solemn feast in the church that marks the time that the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles and the Virgin Mary, and empowered them to proclaim the Gospel to the world. The day is considered the “birthday” of the church — and at Christ the King Church we celebrated accordingly! The church was festively decorated with accents of red and orange (fire), candles (seven for the Holy Spirit’s seven gifts), and white doves (Holy Spirit) descending from red balloons (for the birthday)! At the end of the 10:30 Mass, congregants were invited to take home a balloon and dove to “bring the Holy Spirit home with them.” It was a joyful celebration! (“Send the Fire,” by Victor C. Johnson, sung by Christ the King Singers.)

At Mass on this Memorial Day weekend, Fr. Walter spoke of “sacrificial love” — exemplified by Jesus’s sacrifice for us, but manifested in our own lives every day by fulfilling our daily duties — like doing the dishes or the laundry or caring for family members. And of course, on Memorial Day we remember and honor those who exhibited this sacrificial love by giving their lives in defense of our freedoms.

A gorgeous May morning to honor our Blessed Mother! Led by students from Faith Formation classes, parishioners gathered by Christ the King’s statue of Mary this morning for a brief prayer service before crowning her with flowers!
