Christ the King Church

Christ the King Church Christ the King is a family of faith, participating in the life of the local, national, and world communities through prayer, worship, and acts of love.

We are a community of believers who come together to rejoice in the gifts that have been bestowed on us by the Creator, and who strive to reflect the love of Jesus Christ in our everyday lives. Our worship space is located in the picturesque shoreline village of Old Lyme, Connecticut, where the Connecticut River meets Long Island Sound. The Celebration of the Eucharist is, of course, at the center

of our parish life, and we invite you to celebrate with us! Mass is celebrated daily at Christ the King Church. Weekdays: 8:00am; Weekend schedule: 5:00 pm Saturdays and
8:00 and 10:30 am on Sundays.

Today, April 4, is Holy Saturday.
At 12:00 Noon in the narthex, all are invited to bring a basket of their own goodies for the Blessing of the Easter Food, a tradition that dates back to 12th-century Poland.
There is no 5 pm Mass on this Saturday; the Solemn Easter Vigil Mass will start at 8:00 pm. This beautiful and joyous service begins in the dark. At a fire outside, the Paschal candle is lit and brought into the church, and from it smaller candles are lit, one by one — until the entire church is glowing from the light of the congregation's candles.
Special readings and music mark this liturgy, which features the full choir along with organ, timpani, and bells. The Gloria is sung; the Exsultet is proclaimed; and we renew our baptismal promises. We again sing “Alleluia!”
This year during the Easter Vigil, we are blessed to be welcoming three individuals into our community with Sacraments of Initiation. Join us for this special celebration!

Today, April 3, is Good Friday. No Mass is celebrated today,
and there will be no Friday morning Adoration. But at Christ the King Church there are several observances scheduled for this holy day.

Our 3:00 pm Good Friday service centers on the reading of the Passion of our Lord, which is followed by the Veneration of the Cross. During the Veneration, a cross is displayed in front of the altar steps, and the faithful are invited to approach (individually or in family groups) to reverence this symbol of Jesus's Passion either by touching or kissing the cross or, if preferred, simply stopping and bowing reverently. Christ the King's adult choir provides music for this solemn observance. To join us online, please use the Daily Mass Zoom link on our website.

After the service there will be an opportunity for confessions until 7:00 pm when the Stations of the Cross will be prayed.

Today, April 2, is Holy Thursday, which marks the beginning of the Easter Triduum — the three holiest days in the Church's calendar.

There is no morning mass today at Christ the King Church.
But tonight at 7:00 pm we celebrate the Mass of the Lord's Supper — which recalls the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples, at which Jesus offered himself as the Passover sacrifice and entreated his disciples to do the same. This special Mass celebrates the institution of the Eucharist as the body and blood of Christ. It includes the Washing of the Feet, recalling Jesus's washing of his disciples' feet, and the Presentation of the Holy Oils, which were blessed by Bishop Reidy Tuesday at the Chrism Mass and which will be used in baptisms, confirmations, and anointing of the sick in the coming year. Christ the King Singers provides special music for this service.
Following the Mass the altar will be stripped bare and no Mass is celebrated until the Easter Vigil. All are invited to take part in the Eucharistic Adoration which takes place in the parish hall narthex until 10pm. Please join us in this beautiful celebration!

This Friday, March 27, at 7pm, our middle school Faith Formation students will present the Stations of the Cross in shadow. This is a stirring presentation of Christ's passion, and a fitting lead-up to Holy Week. Visit the parish YouTube page to view a brief snippet from last year's Shadow Stations:
