Good Friday is a holy day of broken hearts and shattered community. Good Friday calls us to sit in the desolation of it all having burned down, and the believe that our hopes and dreams were for nothing. Many Christians cannot sit with that Christology as part of their religion and do not understand the holiness of the calling to be present in the brokenness.
I always hate the pivot in a Good Friday sermon when clergy dares to speak of resurrection on Good Friday. There is no resurrection on Good Friday. There is a value of contemplation in the darkness that we must not loose. Be silent and hear Mary weep.

Our dear friends Jay and Mary are answering a call for Jay to serve three congregations in Vermont. Jay has faithfully served Nashville/Madison/Old Hickory without ceasing, and while ever expanding his service and ministry to those who have been shoved to the margins, crushed, and abandoned when dead, without ever asking for help to meet his own needs. Jay approaches his ministry and service with a kind of commitment and humility that is quite simply holy in nature. I have been privileged to work by his side for many years and I know truth and grace in action when I see it. And for those of you who know Mary, you have been gifted to know a woman and friend who has certainly taught me a lot about patience, grace, and suffering with dignity while still having hope. It's time to give back to those who have given so much. I am now asking you to answer a much easier call. Please, give whatever you have to give. Thank you.

Introduction: Hello everyone, I'm Grace, and I'm reaching out to you all … Grace Voorhees needs your support for Help Jay and Mary Start Their New Chapter!

In May and in June, white supremacists (including members of the K*K, N***s, neo-Confederates and advocates of evils from segregation to slavery) will convene at Montgomery Bell State Park with the welcome, assistance and protection of the state of Tennessee. We urge you to watch this video by Daryle Lamont Jenkins to understand more of the history of these gatherings (where planning for the occupation and death that occurred in Charlottesville Va. on Aug. 12, 2017 happened) and to understand why we need every person, and especially Tennessean, who believes in anti-racism, freedom of speech for all people, the access to use public facilities by all people to join us in telling the white supremacists and the state of Tennessee they can go no further. For information about how you can get involved, email [email protected].

150 years ago this week, Harriet Tubman married Nelson Davis. He was her second husband. She and her first husband, John Tubman, were separated after she escaped to freedom, and by the time she returned, he had remarried. Once she settled in Auburn, New York, she met Davis, 22 years her junior, who had been enslaved in North Carolina and served as a soldier in the Civil War. They married on March 18, 1869, and a few years later they adopted a girl they named Gertie. They ran a farm and a brick business. This photo from about 1887 shows Harriet, Gertie, and Nelson. Nelson died of tuberculosis in 1888.

No Exceptions Prison Collective is currently interviewing the family members of prisoners. In our new video series titled "Caged on the Outside" we seek to tell the stories of the millions of Americans affected by mass incarceration who are bound by love to someone incarcerated. If you are the family member or loved one of a prisoner of former prisoner, especially someone held at a Core Civic prison or other private prison, we would love to help you tell your story.
