As we approach the 11th month since Hurricane Helene, we at The Refuge feel it is time to bring our distribution efforts to a close and will be concluding our church services in October.
We have truly been blessed to serve and get to know the people of Old Fort and the surrounding areas. We’ve witnessed lives changed, and some come to know Jesus as their Savior — making every mile traveled, every hour spent, and every effort worthwhile. None of this would have been possible without the Lord’s guidance, nor without the generous support of many churches, donors, and volunteers who gave their time and material goods.
To the faithful crew in Old Fort — thank you. Your dedication and tireless work have made a real difference in the lives of so many in need.
To those who attended our church services — I pray you continue to grow in your walk with the Lord. Seek where He would have you serve next. I’m deeply thankful for each of you and rejoice in the six souls saved during this season. My prayer is that more will come to Christ, both before and after October.
Though we are closing this chapter, we are not giving up. We believe we have fulfilled our purpose for this season, and we trust the Lord will continue to lead us in serving this area — and others — as He sees fit.
We are also thankful for our neighbor, New Testament Church, for making us feel so welcome.
A heartfelt thank you to Boots on the Ground, the Hightower Association, and all the sister churches who stood behind us in prayer and support. Your partnership was vital to everything we accomplished.
As I continue my work with Boots on the Ground and grow my Hard to Reach Ministries, I will carry this life-changing experience with me always. I’m grateful for the friendships formed and the countless lives touched.
May God bless each and every one of you who has been a part of this mission. I will continue to pray for all affected by the storm — and the storms of life.
Heather will be posting distribution times and connecting with local partners to assess ongoing needs and share remaining resources.
With love and gratitude,
Butch Kirk and family
