Have you studied about fasting and Lent? Well, Lent begins Feb. 18, in just a few days, and most Catholics partake in this practice. I am Baptist but first and foremost, I'm a Christian. I have asked the question about fasting and never got an answer that satisfied my quench. So, I've search and found my answer. Now, I think that the reason I didn't receive the answer because God wanted me to search His word for the answer. Also, ppl that know God's word have a tendency to talk above what a new believer can understand. (I'm trying to choose my words carefully as not to hurt anyone's feelings.) Fasting helps us refocus faith, and develop a closer, more compassionate walk with God, moving beyond just giving something up. Fasting can be anything, anything that takes away your time you could be spending with God, building a relationship. So, lets say you give up Cokes. Every time you want a Coke, grab a Bible or a devotional and read it. That's time you spend with God. After 40 days of no Cokes, you have broken the caffeine addiction and built a better habit with GOD. Now, in my opinion, if you slip up and have a coke, you should pray for forgiveness to God and try again. That's not an easy way out. But God will forgive you if you ask and He will increase your strength to continue and be successful. Fasting can be a food substance or TV time, certain cellphone time, listening to music while driving, shopping time, anything that you could be spending time with God, instead. I heard about a church in Columbus that was putting their phones down for a week, no phones. I bet there's a bunch of us that would find this extremely hard. Fasting is not to be an easy task, so choose wisely. And one more thing....Matthew 6:16-18, “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
“But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
“so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly."
I hope you have a great Easter this year. There are so many things that we take for granted that God Has blessed us with. We need to open our eyes and our hearts.
Have a great day.
