⚠️ ⚠️ City of Okmulgee Water System Will Be Offline June 2, 2026

⚠️ WATER SYSTEM NOTICE FOR OKMULGEE RESIDENTS ⚠️

The City of Okmulgee has announced that the Okmulgee Water Treatment Plant will be temporarily taken offline on TUESDAY, June 2, as crews connect a new high-volume water main to the city’s water system.

The upgrade will replace two aging 18-inch mains east of town that have been prone to leaks, helping improve long-term reliability for residents and businesses.

🕗 Expected outage time: 8 p.m. to midnight

While the treatment plant is offline, the city's water system will continue operating using stored water in elevated tanks. Residents may experience lower water pressure during this time.

💧 To help reduce demand on the system, residents are encouraged to limit water usage as much as possible between 8 p.m. and midnight.

City officials appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation during this important infrastructure improvement project.

🚨💧 Precautionary Boil Advisory – City of Okmulgee 💧🚨

The City of Okmulgee has issued a precautionary boil advisory following an interruption in the water treatment plant’s disinfection process caused by a leak in the chlorine system. While repairs have been completed and the plant is now functioning normally, testing is still underway to ensure water safety.

⚠️ What You Should Do:
👉 Do NOT drink tap water without boiling it first
👉 Bring water to a rolling boil for 2 minutes, then let it cool before use
👉 Use boiled or bottled water for:
• Drinking
• Brushing teeth
• Food preparation
• Washing dishes
• Making ice or infant formula

✅ Bathing and laundry are safe

City crews are actively monitoring the system and flushing water lines. The advisory is expected to be lifted once testing confirms no contamination—results may come after the Easter weekend.

🚨 The Okmulgee County Consortium (OCC) is proud to host a FREE Medication & Sharps Take-Back Event for the public! 🚨

Join us on April 15th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Covelle Hall on the OSUIT Campus to safely and anonymously dispose of your unused or expired medications AND medical sharps.

💉 We are NOW collecting sharps! Help us keep our community safe by properly disposing of needles, lancets, and other sharps.

🎁 FREE resources available (while supplies last):
• Medication lock bags for safe storage at home
• Sharps containers to help safely store needles before disposal

What We Accept:
💊 Unused & expired medications
🩸 Medical sharps (must be in a sealed, puncture-resistant container—think detergent bottle, plastic jug, or sharps container)

🚫 What We CANNOT Accept:
❌ Liquids, inhalers, or illegal drugs

This FREE & anonymous event helps keep our community safe by preventing medication misuse, accidental exposure, and environmental harm. 🌍💙
