Beginning at sundown, Jewish communities around the world welcome Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year and the beginning of the High Holy Days.
The sounding of the shofar calls worshippers to reflection and renewal, while prayers and symbolic foods, including apples and honey, express hopes for a good and sweet year ahead.
Rosh Hashanah also begins the Ten Days of Repentance, a season of examining one’s actions, repairing relationships, and preparing for Yom Kippur.
