The great tragedy is not so much that the power hungry soft-NAR church planting associations grow across the world, or that the Bill Johnsons, Kathryn Kricks, Katie Souzas or Cindy Jacobs types flourish. The great tragedy is that people prefer that. People want that. People crave the counterfeit. And many of those people once were in a Biblically sound church. Does that break your heart? It does mine.

They run after “spiritual experiences” at the cost of truth, never testing the source. They mistake emotional manipulation for a move of The Spirit. They follow the false “prophet” who says God speaks to him. They adore the shouted promises of power. It’s not power. It was just loud. It was just persuasive. It’s their preference.

The people sit amazed at new, fresh words. They exclaim, “I never heard it like that before!”. Of course they haven’t. Before, they heard it in context. Now it’s twisted. Now a verse is lifted from context and means nothing that the Author intended. And the listeners sponge it. “It’s anointed!”. “It’s a new revelation!”. “It explains everything!”. And they mock the church with sound doctrine. They mock seminaries that teach the Word of God in context. They disparage terms like exegesis.

Beware dear Christian. The counterfeits are flourishing. The Christian bookstore contains more false teaching than you would ever have dreamed. The only way to protect yourself is to know truth. Know your Bible in context. Test everything. Learn the Word in context. Pray for discernment. Ask that the Spirit of truth fill you daily. Love God. Love your neighbor. Love God’s word. Attend a church that teaches the Bible, word by word, verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book. Encourage your pastor to do that, if he doesn’t.

Heresy in the “church” isn’t coming. It’s already here.

But there are godly men (not perfect -mind you) who faithfully teach God’s word. They are faithful to their Redeemer. They are faithful to their wives. They are faithful to their flock and feed and protect them. They run off wolves, not invite them in. Find a pastor like that. He will know your name. He likely won’t be standing in a spotlight (unless it’s to better see the Scripture). He will want you to glorify God and God alone.

COLOMBIA- We request you to join us in urgent prayer for the dear citizens of this Pacific coast nation located on the famous “Ring of Fire” seismic zone, which was recently rocked by a massive 7.4 Richter Scale earthquake, This catastrophe has impacted over 2 million lives in the nations of not only Colombia, but Panama and Ecuador as well. The epicenter of this quake was determined to be near the city of El Cairo, in the coffee producing region of Valle del Cauca.

While estimated numbers of the dead and missing are far from their final conclusion, the magnitude of the similar earthquake in nearby Venezuela was only 3.8 but resulted in more than 6,000 deaths with additional numbers still being counted.

Devastation from such “natural disasters” in such affected nations is unimaginable making the ability to transfer and receive desperately needed medical supplies , much less food and water for hundreds of thousands, difficult to impossible.

Such areas are rendered helpless in providing electricity and petroleum for transportation for weeks and sometimes even months as many more deaths result AFTER the initial destruction.

Round the clock rescue and recovery efforts are complicated even further by workers laboring in withering Summer heat extremes in the already steaming equatorial region!

Pray for the believers there who are leading the way in ministering to their countrymen and infinitely MORE importantly, are urgently and boldly sharing the Heavenly assurance
we have received of Christ’s unearnable gift of His forgiveness and eternal life. Pray with us that many “appointed to eternal life”(Acts 13:48) will come to Christ!

The Damning Deception of Ecumenism

I must begin this month's GHM ministry letter with a sincere apology AND a thorough explanation concerning last month’s ministry letter dealing with the foundationally important subject of “FALSE UNITY AND THE GOSPEL”

The website we provided for you to independently verify for yourselves the stunning, publicly televised statement made by the late Billy Graham to false teacher Robert Schuller during the California-based televangelist’s “Hour of Power” broadcast from his Crystal Cathedral in May of 1997 somehow became inactive after our letter was composed and before you received it either by e-mail or regular post. So, in my best effort to correct this unintended confusion, please allow me to provide you here with the context used in our last letter along with THE CURRENTLY ACTIVE WEBSITE ADDRESS for you to investigate for yourself.

“Billy Graham’s unmistakable statements made decades later during a 1997 interview with then- popular “Possibility Preaching” heretic Dr. Robert Schuller on his “Hour of Power” telecast were even MORE disturbing. During that interview, Graham made this sobering, Bible- contradicting statement….

“I think everybody that loves Christ, or knows Christ, whether they’re conscious of it or not, they’re members of the Body of Christ… They may not even know the name of Jesus, but they know in their hearts that they need something that they don’t have, and they turn to the only light that they have, and I think that they are saved.”

“When the incredulous Schuller asked if that included Muslims and Buddhists, Graham replied, “Yes, they may not even know the name of Jesus, but they’re part of the Body of Christ.”

My intent is NOT to dishonor the name of the widely known religious celebrity whom many throughout the world greatly loved and respected. Rather, it is to illustrate the danger of the subtle, insidious, false- teaching influence of ecumenism which has not only been naively and undiscerningly tolerated all around us for some time, but now is advancing at a rate never before seen in human history!

If the man MOST identified both within AND outside of Christianity as the standard bearer of the Evangelical movement over the past 100 years, clearly evidenced justifiably troubling theological positions and practices, should it not concern the true Church of the LORD Jesus as we head ever nearer to our King’s return?

One of the most important goals we have in our work of training and equipping pastors and church leaders around the world is to teach them the vital importance of ALWAYS carefully examining and testing ALL things, especially concerning spiritual matters, including everything they are exposed to through the ministry of Global Harvest!!!

Our spiritual foundation as believers and followers of the LORD Jesus Christ must be TOTALLY anchored in Him and the unchangeable truth of His Word, ALONE!

IT CANNOT BE ALLOWED IN ANY WAY WHATSOEVER TO BE SHAPED BY PERSONAL TASTE, TRADITION OR PREVIOUS ALLEGIANCE TO ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING!

I know that the necessity of raising these issues about such an extremely popular {$340 million was donated by loyal followers of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association over the final year of Graham’s life) cultural icon like Billy Graham (he even has his own “Star” on the Hollywood “Walk of Fame” in California!) is unintentionally going to elicit a response of deep hurt from some and utter rage from others. But now more than ever, I must have the courage and integrity to be concerned about pleasing ONLY ONE audience, the One Who enlisted me to be His soldier (2 Timothy 2:4).

Our LORD Jesus never called the “casually curious” to come and follow Him!

Christ’s call from the beginning to His apostles is the same as His call we must extend from Him today- the CALL TO TOTAL, UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!

“As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” And AT ONCE they left their nets and followed Him.”- Matthew 4:18-20 (emphasis mine).

The purpose of Christ’s Great Commission has NEVER been to get ANYONE to make “a decision” for Christ! It is to be used of the Holy Spirit to secure COST-COUNTED COMMITMENTS TO CHRIST!

In our LORD’S famous sermon on “The Cost of Discipleship” in Luke 14, He issues this cautious warning-

“For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is strong enough with TEN THOUSAND men to encounter the one coming against him with TWENTY THOUSAND? Or else, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. So then, none of you can be My disciple WHO DOES NOT GIVE UP ALL his own possessions.”- Luke 14:28-33.

Our mission is therefore to strive by the Holy Spirit’s empowering, to birth and building fully committed followers of Christ, teaching them to OBEY ALL THAT HE HAS COMMANDED (Matthew 28:20)! Heretical cults and false religions such as the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR), the Mormons (Church of Jesus Christ of Later- Day Saints),Muslims, Roman Catholics, Jehovah’s Witnesses and Word of Faith purveyors, ALL teach and talk about Jesus and the Gospel. But NOT THE BIBLICAL CHRIST AND GOSPEL!!!

How can we obediently teach disciples all that Christ commanded unless and until we are propagating the TRUE message of the TRUE Messiah??

To better explain the concerns held by many Christian leaders about the ecumenism of Billy Graham over many years, I offer the following for your prayerful and thorough examination.

Very tragically, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association has historically misrepresented Catholicism as a branch of orthodox Christianity and frequently partnered with Catholic congregations in organizing and producing their evangelistic rallies and crusades. At the beginning of his ministry, Graham was suspicious of Catholicism, much like most other conservative Protestant evangelists at the time.

By the 1950s, however, Graham had changed his view and “started building bridges” with Catholic luminaries. He began to rely upon Catholic clergy as well as Catholic laypersons to serve as “decision counselors” at his crusades. SHARED CORE BELIEFS??

Graham frequently stated that his foundational spiritual beliefs were the same as those of orthodox Roman Catholicism, pointing out that both Protestants and Roman Catholics believe in Christ's virgin birth, His bodily resurrection, and His coming return to judge the earth. These were the reasons he used to justify his erroneous view that Catholicism is merely another one of many “Christian traditions” which preach “the same fundamental Gospel message.”

This, however, is absolutely untrue!!! The completely unbiblical Catholic teachings on the sinlessness of Mary as the ”Immaculate Conception” and co-Redemptrix, on Purgatory (a place or state of suffering inhabited by the souls of sinners who are expiating their sins before going to Heaven), and salvation by religious good works PLUS faith can NEVER be reconciled with Scripture (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; Galatians 2:16)!

Graham’s Scripture- contradicting, inclusive view greatly troubled conservative Protestant groups who argued that Catholicism is an apostate or false religion because of its irreconcilable differences in how salvation is attained. The popular documentary film series “AMERICAN GOSPEL” critiques Billy Graham’s diluting of traditional Biblical teachings. Throughout Graham’s ministry, he never once publicly drew a line against ANY false teaching or false teacher. Graham not only considered Popes and false teacher Robert Schuller among his friends; Word of Faith false teacher (and mentor to heretic Kenneth Copeland) Oral Roberts was counted as such as well. Their decades-long relationship began in the summer of 1950, when Roberts attended a Graham crusade in Portland, Oregon. Buckley, Jr. on the commentator’s landmark, long running American public affairs television program “Firing Line”, Graham stated his personal belief that a person can deny fundamental teachings of the Christian Faith such as the virgin birth, the Deity and resurrection of Jesus Christ and still be a "true believer"!!! Christ’s half-brother Jude wrote, “ Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you exhorting that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints.
