"Rise Up, My Love, My Fair One" by Healey Willan

Rise up my love, my fair one, and come away.
For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone.
The flowers appear upon the earth.
The time of singing of birds is come.
Arise my love, my fair one, and come away.

The second Sunday of Easter is often called “Quasimodo Sunday” because of the chant that is heard at the beginning of Mass on this day. In Victor Hugo’s novel, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” a baby was left at the Cathedral on this day and was given the name Quasimodo.

“Like newborn infants, you must long for the pure, spiritual milk, that in him you may grow to salvation, alleluia.” - I Peter 2:2

The Chrism Mass, though celebrated on Tuesday for logistical reasons, is a Holy Thursday liturgy. At the Last Supper, the Lord instituted the Eucharist and the Priesthood. Priests from the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City and Archbishop Paul Coakley gather to renew their vows, holy oils are blessed, and the people reaffirm their Eucharistic beliefs.

This is always a joyful occasion, and the exuberance can be heard in this bold congregational singing.
