The Sallie McFarland Rucks Reader Series

The Sallie McFarland Rucks Reader Series The mission of the reader series is to bring together children's literature with adult readers for the benefit of all Wilson Elementary second-graders.

The Sallie McFarland Rucks Reader Series is held monthly at the Sallie McFarland Rucks Memorial Library at Wilson Elementary School in Oklahoma City. The library has hosted dozens of readers, including an Oklahoma governor, Oklahoma City mayor, NBA players, Miss America, a poet, artists, musician, hair stylist, editor, historian, Episcopal bishop, state senator, and many more. Children often learn

as much about the guest reader as they do about storytelling, writing, reading, and illustration. Pedestrian safety is also discussed.

Today's reader was Oklahoma City hip-hop rapper Jabee, a rising star nationwide in rap. He wrote his first song at age seven and began touring nationwide when he graduated from high school. The students loved him, and he finished our session with an on-the-spot rap. Four students performed backup and the two second-grade classes provided the beat. Thank you, Jabee!
