We are terribly saddened and heart broken over yesterday’s horrific shooting at Chabad of Poway. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with the entire community of Poway during this difficult time. Four people were shot including the Rabbi and unfortunately one of the victims, Lori Gilberte-Kaye passed away. We send our deepest condolences to Lori’s family. May G-d bring comfort to her husband and family.

We wish the other victims a complete and speedy recovery.

We join together in strength and solidarity with all of the good people of this world against the hate and the evil.

After being shot and wounded, Rabbi Goldstein bravely stood before his congregation and said, "We are strong. We are united. They cannot break us!"

May G-d bless us and give us the strength to navigate these challenging times and may we share happy and good news.

On behalf of the Chabad centers of Ventura County we would like to express our solidarity with the congregation of Temple Beth Torah, in Ventura. The recent act of vandalism is disturbing and serves as a reminder that the virus of anti-semitism is still active and virulent. We share in their pain, their sense of being violated and their moral outrage.

At the same time, it is important to point out, that this cowardly hate crime in no way reflects the true nature of our Ventura community. Without a doubt, the overwhelming majority of county residents, are outraged and revulsed by this outburst of prejudice against a house of worship.

We are blessed to live in a great and inclusive democracy, where citizens of disparate ethnicities, ideologies and religious beliefs are all welcomed and guaranteed the right to express their views and worship according to their conscience, in complete freedom.

An attack on any synagogue is an attack on all synagogues, regardless of their religious affiliation. In truth, an attack on any house of worship is an attack on all houses of worship.
Likewise, all hate crimes are an attack on all of us and the core freedoms we share.
