Lenten Study and Soup Supper: Beginning Ash Wednesday (February 18) and continuing each Wednesday in Lent, we will be gathering in Fisher Hall at 5 PM for a light, vegetarian soup supper, followed by a study session beginning around 5:30 PM. This year’s study will be led by Pastor Katie Donaldson, who will be guiding us in “visio divina,” a practice of engaging deeply with an image and then noticing any insights that arise.

Local artist Sarah Fuller has created a shrine for "Mary of the Ventura Coast" in our chapel. Local plants and animals surround her. Come light a candle and remember the one whose "yes" to the Divine allowed Light to enter our lives.

I’ve spent my entire life in the church and have been a pastor for my entire adult life.

One of the things I have found deeply baffling and heartbreaking during this time is how some of the wildest conspiracy theories can take root among American Christians and be treated as somewhat plausible, yet the moment someone like me merely suggests that the preferred political party among many Christians might actually be manipulating Christianity for its own gain, that idea is found by many to not only to be absolutely absurd but even heretical.

It has taught me that the real idols we like to worship are the ones we never want to be confronted about.
