"From the time of our being born again, the gradual work of sanctification takes place. We are enabled by the Spirit to mortify the deeds of the body, of our evil nature. And as we are more and more dead to sin, we are more and more alive to God. We go on from grace to grace, while we are careful to abstain from all appearance of evil, and are zealous of good works as we have opportunity, doing good to everyone; while we walk in all His ordinances blameless, therein worshiping Him in spirit and in truth, while we take up our cross and deny ourselves every pleasure that does not lead us to God." John Wesley
While John Wesley affirmed the Protestant 'salvation by faith through grace', it is also important to know Wesley advocated for a discipline (an intentional order) by and through which new disciples would "walk in all His ordinances" - not "earning" our place at the Table or working to keep our place, but participating with The Lord as we grow in sanctification, in holiness.
Always be mindful that we are on a journey *together*. The fellowship - and yes, the discipline - of the Church is intended to remind us we are on this journey with the help we all need from time to time. It is about much more than merely attending worship once in awhile; it is about being a part of something much bigger than any one of us will ever be ... in this life or the next!
