Please join us at Congregation Brith Sholem the weekend of April 24-26 for a Shabbaton with Rabbi David Teutsch and storyteller/puppeteer Marilyn Price. We will enjoy their presence beginning at Erev Shabbat services on Friday evening, continuing with Torah study on Saturday morning and on Saturday evening, a "conversation about gratitude" featuring our Shabbaton guests and Pastor Jon Drascovic of 1st Presbyterian Church. The weekend will conclude with a program led by Marilyn Price on Sunday morning. For more information, consult the bulletin or email [email protected]

With this bulletin arriving during Pesach, it feels only natural to reflect on the Passover story. And yet - what can be said that hasn’t already been said? So I returned to the Torah for inspiration, and as always, it did not disappoint. The Exodus story is filled with fear. The Israelites are af...

As we enter the month of Adar, our tradition gives us a simple but powerful nudge: lean into joy. The Talmud famously teaches, "When Adar arrives, we increase our joy" (Talmud, Tractate Ta’anit 29a). This isn’t a call to pretend everything is fine or to ignore the very real challenges in our liv...

In rabbinic school, we are learning about the balance we all must take as future rabbis between who we are on the bima, and who are everywhere else. And what we have come to learn, is that those two versions of ourselves are not actually separate at all. To be a rabbi means to be one all the time, n...

As January arrives and the candles of Chanukkah have been put away, we may feel the familiar shift - from holiday brightness back into long winter nights. And yet, Jewish time never asks us to leave the light behind. Chanukkah reminds us that light is not only something we kindle once a year, but so...

A message from our President:

I am responding to the recent antisemitic event in our community. While Congregation Brith Sholem was not named as a specific target, we are the closest synagogue to the threat. We have been in close communication with Ogden Mayor Ben Nadolski and Ogden Police Chief Sube and have been kept informed as appropriate.

The OPD worked throughout the night on this investigation and has offered additional police presence and support as needed to supplement our own security. I am grateful for their professionalism and responsiveness to the safety of our community.

I have made congregants aware of the situation. In addition, we have been training with our Secure Community Network rep, Dave McKean, who has helped us strengthen awareness and preparedness around potential threats.

I feel confident in the work being done by the OPD and the measures in place to keep our community safe. We will continue to observe our religious practices with confidence, grounded in our faith and supported by the love and care of the greater Ogden community.

As we say goodbye to the long days of summer, we find ourselves on the threshold of a new spiritual season: the month of Elul. The air is starting to feel a little different, not just because of the changing weather, but because of the palpable sense of anticipation that fills our Jewish calendar. E...
