Message from the Bishop

Brothers and Sisters,

The gym floor of the Parkway Building was refinished this past week and the fumes are reported to make some who have been in the building nauseous, lightheaded or have caused headaches. As such, our stake president, under the recommendation of the facility management group and Odessa Bishops has asked that we cancel all meeting scheduled on August 22nd.

Also, seminary student who are experiencing symptoms from the gym or paint are invited to attend the 6am zoom class until the smell dissipates. This class is taught by Jessica Hardt of the Odessa 2nd ward. Please contact her so that she knows you'll be attending. The link for her class is below:

Here is a message from our Stake Presidency as well as the links for the stake conference broadcast just in case you aren’t able to attend in person.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

After considering the rising Covid-19 case rates, maxed-out hospital ICU capacities and desire to protect those who may be at higher risk, we will be making the stake conference broadcast link available to all members of the stake.

We would encourage those adults who have been vaccinated for Covid-19 or who have already had Covid-19 to attend with their children in person or at their local building if they feel comfortable doing so. (Current data shows that over 99.5% of all recent Covid-19 deaths in Texas are from those remaining unvaccinated and 97% of recent hospitalizations nationwide are unvaccinated. Data also shows that though most vaccinated individuals are unlikely to become seriously ill, the Delta variant is also highly contagious to them and that those vaccinated can also spread Covid-19). Please do not attend if you are sick. Those who have not been vaccinated are still requested by the Area Presidency to wear masks when attending Church meetings.

We encourage members to review and ponder the following statement from the First Presidency on the day they were vaccinated:

"Now, COVID-19 vaccines that many have worked, prayed, and fasted for are being developed, and some are being provided...As appropriate opportunities become available, the Church urges its members, employees and missionaries to be good global citizens and help quell the pandemic by safeguarding themselves and others through immunization. Individuals are responsible to make their own decisions about vaccination. In making that determination, we recommend that, where possible, they counsel with a competent medical professional about their personal circumstances and needs [emphasis added]."

We love you and respect your right to exercise your agency. We sincerely do not wish to offend or cause anyone angst. Our agenda in sending this is a desire to give us the best chance of keeping our churches and temples open so that we can continue to fellowship and worship together and administer and receive the ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Sincerely,

The Stake Presidency

Dear Odessa Texas Stake Members,

We’re pleased to announce that we may begin meeting again, in person, for 2nd hour meetings beginning April 18th.

Sanitary practices as outlined in previous correspondence from the First Presidency and Area Presidency will be a condition of being able to meet. These include:

· Social Distancing: 6 ft for adults, and 3 ft for children

· Wearing masks for all meetings

· Cleaning and disinfecting all utilized areas between unit meetings

Beginning Sunday, April 18th:

· Meeting start times remain the same

· All congregations in the Odessa Texas Stake will be able to sing as a congregation while still wearing a face mask. No hard-back hymnals will be provided.

· Minus the Odessa Parkway building which is under repair, all facility restrooms will be open for normal usage. All restrooms will need to be sanitized after each meeting block.

· Those attending services in the Andrews, Big Spring or Big Lake facilities, as well as the last unit that meets in the Gateway and Tarleton buildings can begin offering full 1-hour 2nd hour in-person class (Primary, Sunday School, EQ, RS, or Youth). At the conclusion of 2nd hour meetings, members should sanitize the rooms they are utilizing as well as bathrooms, water fountains, door handles etc. of other areas in the Church.

· Units that meet in the Gateway and Tarleton buildings that do not meet last should quickly proceed to 2nd hour classes after sacrament meeting and begin class with no formal break. They should conclude 2nd hour meetings 30 minutes prior to the next unit arriving and proceed to sanitize the building.

· Units meeting in the Parkway building may proceed with these adjustments as building repairs allow.

· Members not comfortable attending in-person meetings are encouraged to participate in sacrament meeting through virtual means which units will continue to provide.

We are grateful for each of you and your diligence in listening and following the guidance of our Church leaders. We know the Lord has blessed our Stake as well as its members as we have worked together to provide a safe and holy environment where we can all learn and feel of the Spirit of the Lord together.
