No small feat - She turned 100 yesterday. 100. And if you know longtime RN and smart talker Marilyn P., you know she nailed it. And then some.
Marilyn was showered by dozens of friends and family, so many people that she finally had to ask them to leave. "I survived that birthday," she winked. "She has WAY too many friends," said a woman across her dining table. "And they all want to be there for her."
Shorehaven Tower resident Marilyn served as an RN care coordinator at Shorehaven for more than 20 years. Her background in nursing included caring for, and about people. "You have to be patient. You have to be kind. But most of all, you have to carry on."
Amidst state and federal regulations, "bossy" coworkers and doting families, Marilyn stuck to the rules, and to her glib humor. "As long as I've got my head on right, I'm grateful," she smiled. "Aging comes naturally for me, and all that comes with it." The week before, she crossed the skywalk to Cafe LaBelle for a couple blueberry pancakes and unlimited coffee. Her banter rings throughout common spaces and her quick wit catches fans midstride. She awoke at 3 a.m. this morning just to count her blessings. "It's monumental all right," she proclaimed as a giant chocolate birthday cake skirted her side. "And I'm going to keep carrying on, just you watch."
