PJ Library was inspired to be by the friendship of is founder Harold Greenspan and Dolly Parton.

PJ Library and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation team are sad to learn of the passing of musician, philanthropist, and American legend Dolly Parton. Dolly's Imagination Library helped inspire Harold Grinspoon to found PJ Library in 2005.

When Harold had the privilege of chatting with Dolly in 2023, she shared the following with him: "I am honored to get to help inspire a love of reading in children. They truly are our future."

Harold remembers Dolly as "a truly amazing person--not only a great artist, but a great entrepreneur and philanthropist. We honor Dolly for educating millions, for her remarkable career, her kindness, her art, and especially her generosity."

Listen to some great music and read a beautiful storybook today in her memory. We send our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and fans. May her memory be a blessing.

As the High Holy Day season approaches, we hope this message finds you and your loved ones well.

As you know, we are embarking on an exciting new chapter as we finalize plans for the merger of the Oceanside Jewish Center and the Merrick Jewish Centre. Some may wonder whether a Kol Nidre Appeal is still necessary during this transition; the answer is yes—now more than ever.

While the proposed merger strengthens our long-term future and creates new opportunities for growth and community, it does not replace the immediate financial support needed to sustain both congregations. The annual Kol Nidre Appeal remains essential to funding our worship services, supporting our dedicated clergy and staff, and maintaining the facility as we continue to operate within the Oceanside Jewish Center.

We ask that every member contribute an amount that feels comfortable and meaningful for your family. Every gift, regardless of size, demonstrates your commitment to our synagogue and helps ensure the strength of our future combined community.
