💜Meet the Sweet Sweitzer behind Sweitzer Sweets💜
This is Abbot. He’s 9 years old. He has Down syndrome and he’s a big part of the heart behind Sweitzer Sweets.
As Abbot gets older, we think a lot about his future. We want him to have opportunities to work, contribute, build confidence, and, most importantly, find something he truly loves doing. So, we decided to start small.
Sweitzer Sweets is something I’m building with Abbot’s future in mind. Right now, he’s not quite ready to jump in and help with all the work (although he’s more than happy to volunteer as the official taste tester). However, so much of this little business has been inspired by him.
Abbot’s favorite colors are black and purple, so naturally, I decided a purple treat business was the perfect fit. If you know Abbot, you know one very important thing: the boy loves his treats, and cake pops are at the top of his list!
He also loves pretending he’s a chef and baker. So much so that we have to check the oven before turning it on to make sure he’s not left anything in there to “cook”. He’s be in the kitchen watching and sternly telling me what he thinks needs improving.
And who knows, one day he might just be making business decisions!
For now, I’ll do the baking, the planning, the packaging, the late nights, and all the behind the scenes work. I’ll build this little business one order, pop up, and festival at a time, with the hope that someday Abbot can step into it and do it too.
Maybe he will be a real baker. Maybe he’ll be the best cake pop decorator around. Maybe he’ll be the boss. (He already thinks he’s the boss..)
We don’t know exactly what his future will look like just yet, but we’re preparing for it.
