CCC Sunday Message Recap
Title: A Life Built On The Word Of God
Garrett Smith, youngest son of Pastor Jack and Tina, gave a powerful and moving testimony this morning. Garrett spent 38 years running from a calling that had been repeatedly prophesied over him as a child. Having a father and grandfather in ministry, he had knowledge of the Word of God, but did nothing with it, constantly living with one foot firmly planted in the world. But recently, he finally stopped rejecting the Word of God and found his revelation. As he surrendered to the Word and Order of God, he has found freedom and order in his life. This life-changing order provides peace, forgiveness, mercy and grace. Thank you for sharing your heart with us, Garrett. God bless you!
Everything begins with the Word of God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1) If you need a new beginning, it starts with the Bible. The Word is seed, and you need to be Word-fed and Spirit-led! God’s order is found in the Bible, and every promise and blessing in it are available to us when we live our lives in this order of God. It is all laid out for us! The Bible is the most powerful weapon ever given to human flesh. IT IS WRITTEN! If you don’t have a Bible, get one. It is living, infallible, indestructible, incorruptible and contains the Mind of God. It is the way of salvation. When you fall in love with the Word of God, you fall in love with Jesus. Read the Word to be saved. Practice the Word to be Holy. Read it, believe it and receive it. The Word of God guides our hearts and orders our steps.
The Apostle Paul tells us to “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” (Colossians 3:16) Let God’s Word dwell in you so abundantly that it wells up and sloshes over everyone you meet! Isaiah 40:8 says, “The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” FOREVER. The Word of God separates truth from lies, holy from unholy, clean from unclean, sheep from goats, wheat from tares. It is an anchor for your soul—greater than any storm you will ever go through. The Word says that no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). It says that whatever you bind on earth will be bound on heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. (Matthew 16:19). You have the power to heal sickness and cast out demons. (Mark 3:13-15) You have AUTHORITY as a child of God! What the Bible says you can do, YOU CAN do! What the Bible says you have, YOU HAVE! You can have the confidence you are a child of THE KING. You are forgiven. You have eternal life. There is a place for you in heaven, hand-picked by Jesus. No matter what you are going through in this earthly life, you have a refuge, a fortress, a protector, a provider in God. BELIEVE these promises, because the Word of God is steadfast, sure and trustworthy.
There is freedom when we walk in the Word of God. It gives us order and discernment. “ For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) Young people, take this two-edged sword and wield it in your lives. Drive the devil out of your relationships, families, children and your churches! Build your lives on the solid rock of the Word of God—a foundation that cannot be shaken. KNOW what the Word SAYS and KNOW how to USE it in your life. Too many people have lots of knowledge but lack revelation. Your life will not change until you APPLY the Word in it!
In the Old Testament, fleshly circumcision was an outward sign of covenant, but they were still under the old law-bo***ge. As a born again believer, we have been circumcised in the Spirit—under the better covenant of Christ. We are free from the old laws/doctrines that kept us in bo***ge, so beware you don’t go backwards. Paul warns: “ Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation! For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh, though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so: circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee; concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.” (Philippians 3:2-7) Pastor Jack gave an analogy of the dogs we encounter today: the Pointers, who point at something but can’t help you. The Bloodhounds, who always smell a rat. And the Poodles, who prance about in fancy clothes wanting your attention. And beware of what you listen to. There are multitudes of podcasts speaking in many voices/opinions. And meditations which cleverly introduce eastern/new age false doctrines and ideologies. People chase doctrines that align with what they want to hear. This is particularly concerning in today’s world, which Paul warned Timothy about: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;” (2 Timothy 4:3) You want to meditate on something? Meditate ONLY on the Word of God. Proven. Trustworthy. From the heart and mind of God.
It is time for us to return to the simplicity of the Word of God—and the gospel of Jesus Christ. There is a false gospel in the church that preaches love and inclusion without surrender/commitment to Christ. Jesus was NOT politically correct. Read your Bible. He said unequivocally, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6) You aren’t going to heaven if you are not in Christ.
Plant the incorruptible seed of the Word of God in your heart, and it will conform you in the image of Christ. You will become His hand and feet. And like Christ, you too have a cross to bear. Nail all the things in your life that you need to lose to your cross. Let them die so that you can rise as a new creation in Jesus! When you take a plant out of dirt, it dies. When you take a fish out of water, it dies. When you take a soul out of the Word of God, it lives a wrecked life—separated from its source of life. Don’t let that separation be eternal!
Read the Word of God and it will read YOU. When your spirit is moved as you read, move with it! Let your mouth be ruled with kindness. Be swift to hear and slow to speak. Don’t judge someone because they sin differently than you. How you respond in mercy and grace to those who are hurting and broken is how God will respond to you. There is grace beyond failure and forgiveness beyond mistakes. Ask yourself, “Am I my brother or sister’s keeper?” Use your words to edify, build up heal and restore. Take the Word of God, treasure it in your heart, act on it, and let God change the lives of those around you. And plant the seed of God wherever you go. Amen.
