Join us in congratulating one of Ascension’s own, Johnny Cumbelich, as he prepares to begin his studies at Hellenic College Holy Cross in Boston!

Today, Fr. Nick and Fr. Alex recognized Johnny for his many years of faithful service to Ascension, having served in the altar with steadfast dedication since the age of six. They presented him with a special gift of books and sent him forward with the prayers and best wishes of our entire congregation as he begins this exciting new chapter.

Joining us for this special moment were Johnny’s proud parents, John and Theodora, and his older brother, Tommy.

May God guide and bless Johnny in his studies and wherever this journey may lead him.

Yesterday, Ascension came together to celebrate the Dormition of the Theotokos — one of the most beloved feast days in the Orthodox faith and a day of special significance throughout Greece. 🇬🇷

The tradition of the panegyri (πανήγυρις) takes its name from the Ancient Greek panegyris, meaning a gathering of all. While its roots reach back to ancient Greece, the tradition continued with the spread of Orthodoxy, as communities gathered to honor the saints and celebrate important feast days. Among the greatest of these celebrations is August 15, when we commemorate the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos.

Holding true to this beautiful tradition, our Ascension community gathered in faith and fellowship, culminating two weeks of fasting and prayer with a beautiful outdoor celebration, dinner, music, and dancing.

Special thanks to Maria Kubiak and Katerina Kyriakopedi, along with all of the volunteers and generous donors who helped make the evening so special. We are deeply grateful for your time, generosity, and dedication in support of Ascension Youth Ministry.

A beautiful evening of faith, family, community, and Greek tradition. Χρόνια Πολλά! 💙🇬🇷
