On Saturday, March 23rd, join an interfaith pilgrimage for ceasefire in Gaza. With our bodies, we will be mapping Gaza onto the East Bay, channeling our collective grief and rage into prayerful action as we pilgrimage together as an interfaith community and call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

You can participate in as much of the walk as you are able. The info links (below) will provide details about the meetup points.

This pilgrimage will be a daylong, 22-mile walk, broken into 5 shorter legs and marking the distance from Gaza City to the Rafah crossing refugee camp. It will begin at 7am in Berkeley and end at 7pm in Alameda and include scheduled stops along the way for prayer and action, as well as visits to various faith communities who have raised banners for ceasefire.

The kids’ Bible story has become a Sunday favorite for the adults too. The multi-generational experience of wondering and exploring together has been expansive for all of us.

“Sit in the pit.”
If Job chapter 2 had concluded the story … we could have renamed this book, “How to help a friend who is hurting.”
First… Go to your friend with the intent to sympathize and comfort them.
Then… Weep with them.
Sit with them.
Be with them.
Don’t feel the need to fill the space with words, or theologize, or speculate, or advise.
Instead…
Give them your full attention.
Embrace silence.
If you say something…
“Thank you.”
“That sounds really awful/terrible/sad/lonely.”
“I’m sorry.”
Just sit in the pit with them.
Jesus refused to escape, distract, or numb his pain.
He faced it.
And he says that if we will allow ourselves to mourn, there is some surprising comfort waiting for us.

What’s the most unhelpful thing someone has said or done when you were really going through it?
Job’s friends had such a great first response to his pain, but then they make it worse.
This Sunday, Jesus says that there is a surprise waiting for those who will face their pain.
