Twenty three days before the United States of America’s 250th birthday, Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ, will join nearly 200 other bishops in consecrating the United States for the fifth time. (A similar Mass with a consecration will be livestreamed from the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe in Orlando, Florida, as a part of the bishops’ spring plenary assembly.)
For the first time, that consecration will be devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops says that each bishop across America will make that consecration on June 11, with local parishes invited to take part as well. Parishes, families and groups of individuals can also participate in various ways, including a consecration of a home and a novena prayed in the home.
