CCUMC's year-long celebration of our 125th Anniversary continued with a picnic at Alameda's Crown Beach. The weather was fantastic, and everyone enjoyed a day of food and recreation.

It was also a time to introduce 2 new staff members:

Meina Ko - minister of discipleship
Pui Fong Wong - minister of spiritual growth and formation

They both led worship, and gave a short testimony of their faith journey.

Every year, Oakland Chinatown has a Streetfest that celebrates local organizations and businesses. The action takes over several city blocks, including the street right in front of CCUMC! We took this opportunity to do something different on this Sunday - instead of our regular worship and Christian Education, we welcomed in children and families to a variety of games and crafts around the theme of this summer's Promise Island VBS. A couple hundred kids came through our doors, and were greeted by everyone at CCUMC.

Before this year's Streetfest, the children who attended CCUMC's Adventures in Faith summer program put on a short choir concert for their friends and family. This year's theme was Promise Island, and we pray that the children remember God's promises for them, and grow in faith.

Celebrating CCUMC's 125th Anniversary

Looking back, reaching forward:
Be (who you are). See (what you have). Do (what matters to God)!

Over the last 125 years, this church has experienced countless changes and weathered all sorts of ups and downs. Through it all, God’s presence has been steadfast and enabled the church to remain rooted and standing strong. God lead us, challenged us, loved us, and enabled the church to grow. Thanks be to God! May we look back with hearts full of gratitude and reach forward with hope. May we truly be who God has created and called us to be. May we see the abundance of gifts and resources in our midst to make a difference. And may we join together in doing what matters most deeply to God.
