"Spiritual Lessons That I Learned on My Travels"

Fresh from their extended tour around the Pacific Rim (including Hawaii, French Polynesia, Bali, Japan, and many more countries and destinations), Dr. Hastings-Flegel and her husband Bob have returned with stories to tell.
While traveling, Dr. Hastings-Flegel conducted Sunday morning services on board, complete with liturgy and music. One service was attended by upwards of 200 passengers and crew.
Dr. Hastings-Flegel received her Masters in Biblical Languages at Graduate Theological Union (Berkeley), her Master of Divinity at the Pacific School of Religion (Berkeley), and her Doctorate in Musical Arts (organ) at Stanford. She has served in music minister roles at St. Ignatius Catholic Church (Antioch), Grace Presbyterian Church (Walnut Creek), East County Shared Ministry (Pittsburg), Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (Concord) and Covenant Presbyterian Church (Palo Alto). She also interned in pastor roles at Grace Presbyterian and Community Presbyterian Churches.
She served on Presbyterian Hymnal Committee from 2008 to 2012 to help create the first new Presbyterian hymnal since 1990. She has directed chancel, handbell and youth choirs and served as organist in numerous venues, and also plays cello. She currently serves with the Worship + Welcome & Marketing Team at ECSM.
“The opportunity to see so many expressions of faith and spiritual practices in the world was a transforming and enlightening experience,” commented Dr. Hastings- Flegel. “It is awe-inspiring to see the interconnectedness from so many directions. I’m excited to be able to share some of those experiences with my church family.”
