St. George Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church Chicago

08/07/2026

With great honor and joy, we welcomed His Beatitude Aboon Mor Baselios Joseph, Catholicos of India, on his first pastoral visit to our church and sister parish in Chicago on Sunday, August 2, 2026 since his enthronement as Catholicos.

Following the passing of the late Baselios Thomas I, Mor Baselios Joseph was elected to succeed him, continuing the faith, leadership, and apostolic tradition of the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church.

We are grateful for his visit and the blessings he shared with our community. We pray that God continues to strengthen and guide His Beatitude in his ministry for many years to come.

We were also honored by the presence of His Excellency Mar Joy Alappatt, Eparchial Bishop of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Chicago, whose participation reflected the spirit of Christian unity and mutual respect. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Chicago Malayalee community and the many churches that joined us in celebrating this historic occasion. Your prayers, fellowship, and support made this event even more meaningful and demonstrated the strength of our community united in Christ.

Another Blessed Year of Celebrating the *Feast of St. George!*

We are truly grateful for the opportunity to once again come together as a church family to honor our patron saint, St. George. This year’s celebration was a beautiful reminder of faith, unity, and community.

We also extend our deepest appreciation to everyone who played a part in making this feast a success — from the early stages of planning and organizing, to executing every detail, to those who stayed behind to clean and restore our space. Your time, talents, and dedication do not go unnoticed.

May the prayers of St. George continue to strengthen and guide our church and all who serve in His name.
