Rev. Fr. Mathew Karuthalackal elevated to the Rank of Corepiscopos
United States of America: Rev. Fr. Mathew Karuthalackal, Vicar of St. Simon’s Church, Minnesota, and Associate Vicar of St. George JSO Church, Chicago, has been elevated to the rank of Corepiscopos. The elevation was granted by the order of His Holiness Ignatius Aphrem II Patriarch, and the sacred services were held on December 27, 2025, at St. George JSO Church, Chicago. The ceremony was conducted by Archbishop of North American Diocese Mor Titus Yeldho.
The newly ordained Corepiscopo is a parishioner of Mor Ignatius Jacobite Syrian Church, Njaliyakuzhi of the Kottayam Diocese. He began his ecclesiastical service as a Deacon in 1980 by Late His Beatitude Baselios Paulose II Catholicos, later serving as the secretary of Catholicos for two years. He was ordained priest in 1986 for the Kottayam Diocese during the episcopacy of Late Mor Gregorios Geevarghese Metropolitan.
He was honored with the St. Aphrem Medal and Certificate by Late His Holiness Patriarch Zakka Iwas I in recognition of his dedicated service to the Church.
Throughout his priestly ministry, V. Rev. Fr. Mathew Karuthalackal Corepiscopo has faithfully served in several parishes, including Nalunnakkal St. Adai, Pallam St. Ignatius, Ponkunnam St. Thomas, Olassa St. John, Ullayam St. George Churches in Kerala, India. He has also rendered valuable service in various leadership roles, such as Member of the Diocesan Council, Vice President of the Akhila Malankara Youth Association, Vice President of St. Paul’s Fellowship, Parish Mission Regional Vice President, Secretary of the Vakathanam Convention, and Member of the North American Archdiocesan Council.
Serving in the North American Archdiocese since 1994, he has ministered with distinction and dedication, including a long tenure as Vicar of St. George JSO Church and St. Mary’s Syrian Orthodox Church, Chicago.
